After TV is on, it goes off by itself and makes siren noise. If you turn it on again, it goes off again. What seems to be the problem and how do you fix this?
Peter
This TV set is not a set that has a high voltage transformer, or a horizontal output transformer. This is a DLP TV set. The problem you have is a bad color wheel inside of the light engine. I do have directions to replace this color wheel if you feel really adventurous. This is not a job for a novice though. If you want to take a look at the document I have, with the pictures, please leave an e-mail address and I will be more then happy to share this with you. Good luck
That siren noise might be coming fom your horizontal output trnasformer. The sound is caused by the arching of electricity from one exposed conductor (wire) to another. This could indicate a bad transformer (shorted winding). A good test for this would be a RING Test this allows you to see if there are shorted windings in a coil. There are numerous pieces of equipment which allow you to do a safe RING Test two of the are : The LC103 Inductance and Capcitance Analyzer and the VA62A Universal Video Analyzer. These have an output for a RING Test. Now if you are adventureous you can build a ring test jig by using a capacitor a pluse generator and tow connection terminals. There are a lot of articals on the net about the procedure. Or what you can do is to take the set to a TV repair shop and let them worry about all of this stuff, the shop should have the equipment to test the Horizontal Output Transformer.
This fix should go to techman because after getting the diagrams for this model set, he is correct. It is a DLP and what I thought as a HV component problem whould be analogous to a light engine problem. Thank s techman, this one is yours. Sound like the siren. check the connections at the siren. If the connections are good and the system is sending a signal then, you may need to replace it.
Red is your positive, black is negative, both brown wires are to the speaker, and the yellow and green wire are for any emergency strobe lights you may want to hook up to it. P.S. if you wire up the brown wires and siren doesn't work make sure volume is turned up and try it again if it doesn't work then switch the brown wires around. Both toggle switches on the far right is to only turn the lights on. not the siren. Make sure the siren nob is turned all the way left thats off. The rest of the are just siren modes. The toggle switch all the way to the left. Push down horn comes on release it then horn goes off. Push up siren comes on for like 7-10 seconds and the goes off. Horn and your microphone always override any siren that may be on.
You are pretty good at this! Replace the belt, but don't buy a cheap one. The belt slips, then gets hot and sticky, noise goes away. Sort of like dragsters making their tires stick to the track, only a lot smaller. You get a point for your diagnosis.
It could be 1 of 2 fans (fans are around $30.00 each) or more likely it is the color wheel beginning to fail. Color wheel will cost around $180.00-200.00, plus labor. I would recommend calling 1-800-samsung to find the nearest service center. Part should take an hour to an hour and a half to complete repair.
My Toshiba dlp 62hm116 was used for 3 months then stored for 2 years, I turned it on yesterday and it makes a loud grinding noise which I think is probably from the exhaust fan area and the picture is black except white at both vertical sides. It worked fine the last time I used it 2 years ago. Any ideas?
