Re: disk drives

The CDRW/DVDRW has reached it's end of life or it's defective. You'll have to replace it.

Re: disk drives

I learned this from a HP tech. Go to the device manager .
Control Panel,System,Hardware Tab, Device Manager.
Uninstall the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controlers.
Reboot twice , one to uninstall , one to install.
It worked for me and for other issues as well.

What is the difference between a DVD+RW and a DVD-RW.

It is the re-recordable version of the DVD-R. To use this type of media you will need to buy a DVD-RW recorder. The DVD-RW recorders usually record DVD-R, CD-R and CD-RW media, too. Similarly to what happens to DVD-R, DVD-RW disks can be played in newer commercial DVD players without any problems. Older commercial devices cannot recognize the media, refusing to play the disk. To play a DVD-RW disk, commercial players need the disk to be finished. After finishing the disk, you can only record new data in it by reformatting it, which makes you lose all the recorded data.

It is the re-recordable version of the DVD+R and everything that was said about the DVD+R is valid for the DVD+RW. Only the newest DVD players play movies recorded in disks using this format. There are recorders on the market that can record both DVD-RW disks and DVD+RW ones. These recorders are called DVD?┬▒RW. Similarly to the DVD-RW, the disk needs to be finished to be played in commercial DVD players, and to record new data in the disk after having finished it requires reformatting it, which makes all the data in it to be erased. DVD+RW recorders are usually capable of reading DVD-RW disks (but not of recording them) and vice-versa.

There you are.

My laptop's not wanting to burn DVD-RW any more. I had to replace the hard drive and ever since then it wont burn an RW disc. It will erase them, and play them. Even the old RW disks from before I...

Go to the website for the DVD Maker and download the latest drivers.
No reason this won't correct the problem.
Don't go to Sony unless they made the DVD burner.

Dell Latitude D800-Win XP- My Dvd/rw wont write

Because you lost two devices, the DVD and the wireless mini card, I believe your problem is a drivers issue.
You should make sure you do not have any Malware that is removing these drivers.
If you have access to the Internet download and install Malwarebytes. It has a quick scan that will ID any infections.
Then get the newest drivers for those two devices from Dell's support site.
Before you install the drivers, remove those devices in Control Panel.

My dvd drive on my laptop will not read all disks

check your drive spesc - it can't not compatible with some disks, there are many formats: DVD-R, DRD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW.
some disk recoder applications can leave open sessions and it makes disk readable only on the same drive where it was burnt
