After completing all the steps of installation, I cannot get my new Logitech QuickCam Express's microphone to work. With the Audio Tuning Wizard, I can get to the step called "Adjust Microphone Volume", but then, when I test the volume with my voice, no sound is sent into the microphone, and I get the message called "Microphone Warning" stating that "little or no sound was detected from your microphone" etc. The Audio Tuning Wizard has a box with a dropdown asking for the correct microphone, it only comes up with the audio system in my laptop, not the Logitech QuickCam Express one. I have searched and can't find a route that will allow me to change my default microphone. The only option for setting is the laptop microphone. Installation of the QuickCam software is not presenting the QuickCam mic.
For XP users,try:
>Start
>ControlPanel
>Sounds and Audio Devices
>Audio
>Sound Playback
Click on drop down menu arrow.
If there are two audio devices listed: Deselect current device; select second device.
>OK

I had this problem, and this seems to have worked for me:
1) Uninstall Logitech camera program and drivers from "Programs and Features" in the control panel.
2) Reboot computer
3) Go to http://www.logitech.com click on support, download the latest drivers installation for your device
4) Install this version (not the one that came on your CD!)
5) After the driver installs and Logitech thinks it's done, there was a Windows alert wanting to install the drivers. Important - tell it to locate and install them.
6) Proceed with sound test
This worked for me.. I was finally able to see my camera as a system microphone. The Logitech instructions don't mention anything about step 5, but it never worked properly for me until I did that.

Hi,
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Good luck!

SOURCE: QuickCam mic doesn't work
I read another post that said to go to Logitech itself for up-dates. This I did......downloaded all new drivers, etc. (the disc that comes with the cam must be out of date !). Then when that was done, I went back on Skype and where you do a 'voice test' I was able to this time around to "choose" my webcam - this was not coming up before at all. So in doing that it activated the mic on the webcam and all was OK. We seniors are supposed to be savvy with the forever changing world of electronic devices today! (LOL)

I tried everything. Has randomly worked when recording a vid, but then doesn't work again. Same prob. Not detected...
Thank you for the XP fix. I neglected to say I am running Vista. Unfortunately, I have tried finding the Logitech mic via the Control Panel in Vista, but only the computer's default mic is shown, not the QuickCam mic. I tried installing the QuickCam software twice, but the mic I need is consistently not there after the software installation. Any other fix suggestions? "NewCam"
Ironically, I called Logitech and was told my QuickCam Express has no built in microphone. Duh. That's why I coudn't find it. I returned the camera. In looking at cams with built in microphones, I'm finding they are quite a bit more expensive. --NewCam
