Question about Philips Magnavox MWR20V6 DVD Recorder/VCR

1 Answer

Vhs won't work

Vhs will play for 6 seconds and then turns off. I've tried cleaning it with a vhs tape cleaner and doesn't do any good.

I have the same problem. The MWR20V6 plays and records DVD fine, but when a VHS tape is put in, it will only play for 5-6 seconds and then shut off. When the power is turned back on, the tape will eject.

It also shuts off when recording 5-6 seconds. However, you can play a few seconds, then press pause, then play again for a few more seconds and then pause, and repeat over and over again without the machine shutting off. 5-6 seconds seems to be the magic number.

It hasn't damaged any tapes yet, but the fact that I cannot use the VHS portion of the machine really sucks. Any solution would be great. The machine looks clean to me. Difficult to troubleshoot when the top is off, since the ambient light from my work area affects the machine (The VHS portion will not even function at all unless the top is on or the room is dark)

After I turn the unit on it waits about 5-6 seconds and then makes a clicking noise and then turns off. The noise is coming from a gear wheel that is on the left side near the front of the VHS door. If I put a tape in it plays for about 5 seconds and shuts off right after making the clicking noise/vibration.

Thanks for posting. As a follow up to my original problem, I never did find the solution and ended up returning it to the store as defective. Take care.

If you are trying to play older VHS tapes, you may have to run them through some fast forward-rewind cycles to condition them and relieve stress

I have a couple VHS-C tapes that drag

This may be caused by a faulty adapter. 1. try playing in the camera. 2. try a different tape. 3. try a different adapter.99% this is a problem with the adapter or the tape. It really sounds like the tape isn't turning freely, which can be caused by a brake sticking, or spindle in the tape or adapter.

If You are not getting a video output from the LG player , get yourself a head cleaning tape ( wet type ) and run it for 15 seconds and then try playing a good tape with out any fungus on the surface.

When I playback what I have recorded via camcorder or through tv it is so snowy you can not watch it through a video player it is perfect

Have you tried cleaning the camcorder heads?

Try putting vhs-c cleaner in your local ebay..... such as (in UK) ....

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VIVANCO-VHS-C-Camcorder-Head-Cleaner-Buy-1-Get-1-Free_W0QQitemZ310201454774QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Photography_CamcorderAccess_RL?hash=item48397290b6

Particles from the tape get lodged on the head over time. Its not special to VHS-c - its common to all tape products. Usually a good clean (say 3 - 4 times initially, plus one clean every 20 hours use, or so) prevents the accumulation of residue.

TV is on channel. VHS player has tape for playback loaded. Player is on but when PLAY is pressed 5 seconds later it turns off by itself. Model number is DVP3200V/37. Can anyone help, please.

Dirty magnetic head. Run a commercial tape head cleaner through it. You can get one at the box stores. Also, put your tape in a tape rewinder and rewind and fast forward the tape for about 30 seconds. Sometimes the tape ribbon gets wound too tight or is loose. If these fail, then you have to open the unit up and clean the magnetic head manually with some isopropyl alcohol and cotton q-tips. Also, look for capacitors on the power inboard chip that look burned and replace them.

VHS tape plays for a few seconds and automatically ejects

My guess would be dirt on the rollers inside the VCR. They sesnse a jam and ejct. Try a VCR cleaner (with cleaning fluid) and see if that helps.

The VHS cleaning cassette possibly deposited fiber in the heads in the drum. You may need to open the cabin and examine the heads and the mechanism for foreign matterial.
