Check the thermal fuse on the air outlet. If it blows you get no power to the ignitor.

The thermal fuse is the one with the 2 blue wires on it.

No hot wire going into coil

that wouldn't make it work properly,I would check the ignition control module, the power goes to it first, then to your coil, if your getting power to the control module and not to the coil then the module is the problem. If you just put a hot line to it you can lose more parts then you think.

Check down by the battery and the fuse box area and make sure that all the fuses are good. It may have blown a fuse when you where hot wiring it.

1988 jeep won't start

Not sure if I read your post right, but you have to have a hot wire to the ignition switch from the battery, independent of anything else on the car, before the switch will work.
The CPS is a common problem on the jeeps, though. If bad, you may not get a coil signal.

I have a 1985 dodge ram with a rebuilt 360 it starts and runs good for about 20 or so minutes and then looses power and dies and won't start back till it sits for 10 or 15 mins, I have no clue what is...

After it dies, check the spark and make sure it is able to jump at least a 1/4 or better gap and has "snap" to it, not orange and "fluffy". Also if no spark, check the ignition box on the fender. Both coil and ign box can misbehave if they have an internal problem after they get hot. If you have a lean burn computer on the air cleaner tap on it lightly with a wrench etc. (sounds crude but it works) If the engine stutters or changes how it idles, the computer is bad. (one that old can be converted to older ignition system but check emissions regulations before doing that.
If ignition system is working, make sure that the carb is not flooding and that fuel pressure is around the carb inlet.

My 98 ultra classic won't start how do check if my coil is getting power i already pulled a spark plug wire and checked for spark there is none so i'd like to see if the coil is receving power from...

The coil has two primary connections. One side is the "hot" side and one is the ground side. Take all the wires off both ends and position them so they are not touching anything. Turn the ignition switch on and check the wires for one with battery voltage on it. That wire will be on one post of the primary side of the coil and may have other wires that don't go "hot" when you turn the switch on. That's the wires going to the ignition control box. It gets it's power from the same point that the coil gets it's power.

Good Luck

Usually that happens when the ignition coil gets hot. Not sure if your car has one. It looks like a round cylinder with a spark plug wire connected to it.
