Recovering memory stick data can be tough, you can try recuva (http://www.piriform.com/recuva). This is a very good tool for recovering data, it includes a quick scan and a deep scan.
If the recovery works or you decide the data doesn't matter or you wish to use the card again, then to format it (this will delete EVERYTHING on the card) for normal use then the HP USB disk storage format tool is the best for this, I know it says USB, but it works for cards too: http://en.kioskea.net/download/download-127-hp-usb-disk-storage-format-tool
Be careful when using this tool, ensure you have the correct drive letter selected.

Files on a flash drive and memory cards in a card reader can be corrupted if it is not removed from the USB port properly.
Before removing the flash drive click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon and then click on the flash drive you want to remove and then remove the flash drive when the computer message says it is Safe to remove.
To restore the memory card and flash drive you may need to format the flash drive, but you will lose the data stored on the flash drive.
If you need the data on the flash drive these WEB sites may help: -

Do you have an adapter that you can use to plug it into your computer? If you do ... try formatting and defragging the chip with your windows tools.

Some Sony Cybershot camera's have a small amount of memory built into the camera. Double check that the camera is set to put the pictures onto the memory stick.
If the camera is set up correctly, the memory stick may not be formatted correctly for your computer. If at all possible, connect the camera to your computer directly with the USB cable that should have come with it.
