Appending text doesn't work

When I summon quicksilver to append text to a document everything seems to go fine but later if I open the document, no new text is present.

I can enter text after hitting "command .", I can tab over to select "append", and find the document. When I select the document, quiclsilver seems to respond but then when I open the document it hasn't changed. Is there a setting I need to adjust to make this function work?
