<Fn> + <F2> = Acer eSettings = Launches Acer eSettings in AcerEmpowering Technology.

If you prefer the top row of keys to always behave as standard function keys without holding the Fn key:

Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
Click Keyboard.
Click the Keyboard tab if it's not already highlighted.
Select "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys"

The top row of keys are called Function Keys. They're usually used for special purposes of programs. Examples are: F1 produces the Help page for the current program OR F2 renames a file that is currently highlighted.

I hit one of the function keys and locked up the keyboard Do you know how to unlock it?

Press the shift key and while holding down the shift key hit the f6 key located above your row of number keys,if that doesnt do it then look for a key on the top row that has a picture of a pad lock.Hope this helps,let me know,Thanks.

Hello earthaalford:
Your function keys are usually located on the top row and are labeled F1,F2,F3 and so forth. The function of those keys depends on what program you are currently operating in ie: Windows, Office , Word, Excel or any number of other programs.

FN key is to be used in combination with the function keys like F1, F2 , F3 and so on to launch or initiate a specific function on your computer and utilities or features that came with in.

You have enabled the NumLock function of your keyboard. Find the NumLck key on your keyboard. It is normally on the top row of keys or above the numbers keypad. Then press Fn (Function) and NumLck at the same time. That will toggle OFF the numLock setting. It may be different function key combination on the different computer manufacturer. Dell is usually Fn + F4, Compaq is Fn + ScrLK. Each manufacturer may use a different set of key

Hi treborswindl
Look on the keyboard to see whether any of the function keys on the top row are on. If so, you have to turn it off.
How do you do it?
Locate the [FN] key at the bottom (this is the function key between the [CTRL] and [WIN] keys.
Hold down the [FN] key and the numbered function key which is on ( for example F11 ) the top row which is lit.
Goto Microsoft word or Notepad and try out your keys.
Hope this will work for you.

Where is the function key on the on HP keyboard

There is no single function button.
There are 12 function keys.
They are labeled F1 through F12.
They comprise the very top row of the keyboard.

You probably need to load the Compaq utility that assigns and activates the keys. Go to http://h18000.www1.hp.com/cpq_support.html
enter the model number of your compaq computer, and search the available downloads for the utility.
