Question about RCA HD52W59 HDTV Projection Television
My tv is about 1 year old. Today while watching the tv, the picture became distorted. I see 3 curved colored lines (green, red & blue) across top of screen, picture is blurry, almost like the way something in 3-D looks if you're not wearing 3-D glasses. Also, the screen is black in the same curve shape at the top of the screen above the curved colored lines and also at the bottom of the screen below the lines. Any clue as to what in the world this is???? Thanks
This indications that you have a problem with convergence. first try to go into customer menu...setup....convergence. and see if the convergence will adjust.. if it wont then you have a problem with the convergence cuircit boards.

As C E T stated, replace the FL231 fuse on the deflection board. It is the middle one of a group of three brown, rectangular looking boxes just right of the flyback transformer (two Red wires connected to it).
Also, it is very important to check the solder connections on the Flyback Transformer. Apply new solder if you see any cracked solder.
If you can solder and identify components, this is most definately a DIY fix.

I also had the same exact problem where I had the 3 lines at the top that were bowed downward, and my tv looked 3D. I went into the setup page, and I was missing the convergence part. well we ended having to call RCA about it. of course our 1 year warranty was up. we only had the tv for 1 1/2 years. So they gave us the number to a repair man. he was very rude, and told us it would cost us $200 just for him to come to our house (the guy lives like 5 miles away) anyway we ended up calling another guy that literally lives right around the corner. so apparently The convergence fuse blew in the panel board in the back of the tv. This is something you CANNOT fix yourself. He ended up fixing that, and tuning all the colors in our tv for only $75, and he was here for over 2 hours. well apparently he for the first time fixed an RCA tv that had the same problem 2 weeks ago, and it took him over 1 week to figure out what the problem was. in the long run RCA sucks, and they are selling crappy tvs that are not put together properly.

Most convergence failure in these RCA models requires the replacement of the convergence power supply pcb. There is also a cp fuse on the deflection pcb that will open and cause this problem.
