TV turns on at odd hours by itself

My Magnovox TV/VideoPlayer turns on by itself at odd times. I do child care and supect that my 2 year old has played with the remote and accidently programed it to turn on at multiple times and having lost the manuel, have no idea how to reprogram it. We came home at 10 p.m. from a months vacation to find it on. And have noticed it come on at 6:30 am one day and 9 am another. Is there a manuel for the Magnavox model MC192EMG/17 that we can download.

Big screen tv turns on and off on its own!

Your TV is being overheated by the location it is placed. try moving it in an airy area and see if the problem still occurs. The turning on and off is a response to overheating sensors in the TV housing and if not rectified it could malfunction and may cause burnout, a possible risk of fire.

TV turns on at odd hours by itself

Hi, I had the "Ghost In The Machine". I tried out what I descibed in my original posting.
#1. I unplugged The Set.
#2. I pushed in and held in the power button in for about 5 minutes before bedtime. ( The PC trick I learned) I gave it 5 minutes because a tv set has much more power inside it.
#3. I again pushed in and held the power button in again for 3 minutes the next morning.
#4. I plugged the tv in again. The red standby light was lit. The set did not immeadiatly come on when I tried to power it up.
#5. 5 Minutes later I returned and hit the power button on the remote and it came on like nothing ever was wrong.
#6. It has been fine now for 3 days!!! Powers up when commanded and shuts down like normal. It has yet to come back on or act up as it was doing.
I will keep a watch on it and if it starts up acting again I will repost. I hope this information will be of use to anyone who experienced the same problem. It didn't cost a dime, just some patience. Thanks for a forum that people can exchange information and save trouble and money unless all options are exhausted. Bill

TV keeps shutting off

Since the set needs to be unplugged and plugged back in, the requlator circuit in the power supply may have a problem. The set is over a decade old and other things are going to start going wrong with it. Capacitors will dry up, solder joints will begin to crack and the picture tube will begin to get weaker. My suggestion is to invest in a new set, with a newer technology. Hope this helps.
