Question about Panasonic PT-53TW53 53" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television
My TV is 18 months old and recently when turned on there is a silver dollar size green spot towards the middle of the right side of the screen. The green spot goes from soft to bright to not visible at all. The is continuous was the tv is turned on.
Easy fix. I had the same green dot problem and I removed the front panel (no screws). In the center is a panel that has two screws. Remove them and pull the cover off. There you will find the projection bulb. Do not clean the bulb but instead the base. Use a damp cloth to wipe the dust off the black disk (the base of the projection bulb housing). Apparently the dust through static electricity may cause enough magnetism to distort your picture. Hope this helps.

Had the same with 61" version of similar TV that was bought in ~2006 (PT-61-LCX65) - first red spot appeared, then few weeks ago got green one nearby.
Finally decided to fix it - called Panasonic using the phone number in the manual (1-888-843-9788), selected Service, told that I got the problem which is most probably "a manufacturer's defect" that should be fixed for free - they redirected me to next step, then to next one and in about 20 minutes they arranged me a home-visit by support person (the guy had to drive 2 hours to get here!). Every thing went _very_ smoothly, I am very satisfied with Panasonic's support, it was just one call with few redirections.
The service guy came in two days, unscrewed back panel, connected some kind of box to one of the boards (eeprom programmer?), turned TV onto some channel and let the box do its job for about 5 minutes - then all of a sudden spots disappeared and picture is OK now. The service guy told me that the overall picture quality should have also improved all across the screen, I guess TV sends some kind of feedback to that box for optimization.
It was free service, the service guy mentioned something about law action and that Panasonic is required to fix that for free.

Get Panasonic servicer to do "eprom upgrade" to solve the problem.
Cheap, quick and easy. Panasonic paid for my repair (3months out of warranty).

I had the same problem. I called panasonic and they're fixing it for free. This is way out of warranty, and they're still fixing it. I think what happened was that the original manufactures were so flawed that they're giving every t.v. a free upgrade. i bought my t.v. from a friend, and had no receipt, nor warranty to show them. they just needed the serial number and an approximate date of purchase. In short, you don't really need anything except to have the t.v. in your house and the serial number. if you're experiencing this,i would suggest you just call panasonic and keep trying to talk to a representative.

I have the same tv as you, and also have the same problem. How do I solve this?

Turn off the color and see if it's still there, your tring isolate the spot to the green tube or lens assy. or a spot on the mirror or screen assy.

I also had the big balls of color show up after about 5 years on my pt61lcx65. Panasonic was no help. They said since I was out of warranty, I had to pay a fee to get an answer. Paid the fee, and their answer was that they had no clue. However, called a good local technician and he performed the EPROM software update as described above. This worked perfectly and picture was better than new. A year later I started getting pink highlights in places where pure white should be. Just found out after living with this pink stuff that it's due to the tv picture settings. If tv picture set to "vivid" and picture is +30 and brightness is +25 to +30, you'll see these pink highlights all over the place. You'll Have to use original panasonic remote to get to these picture menus. Just set to original "standard" or "cinema" setting to get it back to normal. Live and learn.
