when I turn on my pioneer vsz-d307 it go directly to mute and there is no way to get it off

I have the same problem of the "MUTING" display (not flashing). We moved the unit, just turning it and then turning it back, and we cannot get the MUTING display to go away. We have gone through all the program buttons, rechecked all connections.

Pioneer says it's internal problem. Technician said minimum 145.00 to fix. Cheaper to buy new. Hope this helps!

After trying everything to turn the "mute" off, I unplugged the receiver from my cable box (I was told this locks up the receiver). I then plugged the Pioneer directly into my surge protector. Now it works fine. Hope this helps.

I have a pioneer usx-405 reciever for a PDf407. It used to work just fine but recently whenever I power it on in keeps flashing "muting". I looked it up online and a forum said I need a remote...

You mean Vsx 405, right? Model numbers are senseless enough without typos.

Are you saying you DON'T have a remote? How did you ever set it up? There are several CU-VSX105 remotes available on eBay, one at $9.99 and expiring in a few minutes (17:12 PDT). If you get this in time you could snipe it at the last 10 seconds.

Many a Pioneer receiver will come up MUTING if it powered down Muting. It's not clear if you have been experiencing unwanted shut-downs. Unwanted Muting or any other command could well originate with an unintended remote control source. Mask the receiver so it can't see other I/R sources.

Why does my pioneer vsx-d557 automatically go into MUTING WHEN I turn it on?

Maybe you have MUTING selected. Turn the volume knob up or toggle the Mute control on the remote.

If it defaults to muting on power up find the manual and search it for a default volume setting.

Ok, how much is "a bit"? If you are operating your unit at the 50% or more level, your unit is working as it should, as DVD and CD players output more signal than other sources...accordianman
