Bunn SRU Coffee Urn

We purchased 3 used Bunn SRU units and do not have DETAILED cleaning or regular maintenance instructions. The manual does not give enough information. We have had some problems with overflow issues and suspect that the cleaning issues are behind the problems. Please Help Me!!

All bunn-o-matics have a cleaning spring that goes into the water tube once you unscrew the sprayhead. if you want to take the unit apart go this route. unplug the unit. remove the sprayhead. remove the two screws atop the unit and there's a brass fitting that screws into the canister's top. remove this then remove the tray. when you have the top off you'll see the canister that holds the water. it holds three potfulls of water. there's two wires that go down around the canister. this is the warm element. on top of the canister is a round dime like device. this is the brew sensor and disconnects the main element when a pot is brewed. in one corner you'll see the thermostat. this determines the brew pot temperature. there's a cappillary that goes down inside the canister. where the sprayhead is is a nut. remove this and the whole canister can be removed. you'll find after you remove the top of the canister that deposits are hard caked along the inside walls of the canister where the warmer element is located. scrape this off. replacement parts can be had at the bunn site.

My bunn coffee maker leaks at the bottom. Can you tell me what to do

Okay no model given,
* Pour over brewers only leak if over filled (more than a pot). If it leaks just sitting there then there is a hole in the tank. Call for service or replace.
* Commercial machines like CW, CWTF, Single, Dual, Urns, are plumbed into a water line. Leaks may come from the water line, Tank, or urn.
* If the water leak is clear and not hot then it's the water inlet line.
* If it's hot then the heater is leaking,
* If it's coffee colored then it's the urn where the coffee is being brewed.
* In All cases call your vendor for service as this is a hazardous situation. Unplug or turn off the power to the unit. It should be on a large throw switch near any large brewer. Have maintenance turn off the breaker and leave of till the vendor can service.

Check for a free download of manual with maintenance instructions.
* In general;
-Keep the area clean by wiping down with a damp clean cloth.
-Remove the brew funnel and wipe spray head of coffee and grit.
-Wash the brew funnel after each use.
-Dump out old coffee and wash pots after closing. Heavy coffee stained pots can be filled with plain water and soak over nite. Rinse clean before using.
-For extreme caked on dried coffee pots; fill with hot water and leave on warmer over nite. Ask vendor for URN cleaner and add a tablespoon in pot with hot water. Let sit over nite on warmer plate. Rinse clean prior to use.
-Check if everything is working properly. Better to call and leave a message for service.
* when in doubt, call vendor for service.

How much coffee would it take to make the 55 cups in this coffee maker, and can you use the same coffee as you use for drip machines?

Your model sounds like the West Bend 59055 - Large Coffee Urn, 60 Cup.
The User Manual for your coffer urn can be found here:

Instruction for making coffee can be found on page 5. For 55 cups is would take 3 1/4 cups of coffee.

Use an electric perc or regular grind coffee; if you grind your own this should be a medium to coarse grind.

Do not use 'drip' or finely ground coffee as this could plug the drain holes in the basket and cause the urn to flood.

The metal proble is use to clean out the water tubing. Remove your sprayhead and insert the metal rod up in the hole leaving out about 1-2 inches. Then simply twist and turn the rod about 5-6 times. This will remove any lime deposits. Then flush out with 2-3 decanters of water. You can obtain a new manual by calling customer service or going to the going to @home, then products-click on your brewer-and then select use and care manual and you can print it out or view it online.

Instruction manual for Bakers & Chef 60 cup coffee urn. I need to know how much coffee (in cups) to make 60 cups of coffee. I misplaced the instructions that came with the coffee urn. Thanks, Tom

I use 1/2 cup ground coffee for 12 cups. I make for the church and guests and everyone seems to like it. I use the same amount for decaf or regular. Hope this helps.
