A friend has a york stamina tredamill. It has recently been giving him problems. All goes well for 20 - 60 seconds, then it shuts itself down. No error code. The whole thing just shuts down. After a minute or 2 he switches it back on and it starts up again, but only for a minute or so & off it goes again.
What is the power source? does it work by batteries or AC or both.
If it works by batteries check the batteries to determine if they are good or bad and need changing.also check for short circuits or corrosion in the operating panel controls.Ususally it is just the batteries that need changing and the compartment holding the batteries need to be cleaned. After cleaning and changing the batteries, make sure that you dry the soluables with a paper tawell or a clean rag,After you have done this the unit should return back to nomal operation if it does not you may have a problem with the computer itself and if that 's the case you will
need to find diagnostic codes designed to troubleshoot the computer.Hopefully just the battery change and the clean up will
be sufficient to return the unit back to intact.

More likely LS= Loss Signal open the motor shroud on the motor their should be a cylindrical shape sensor (magnetic). Plug in treadmill and on the motor control board their should be a L E D (red or amber) by manually rotating the motor you should see that light flicker if it does sensor is good if not replace sensor. Next thing if sensor is good check motor brushes to see if they are mis-align or worn if worn less than 3/8" in length replace them

Sounds like the wax lubrication has finally boiled off the belt the easiest way eliminate this problem is to rewax the deck. You may purchase this @ http://www.gympart.com/ or call them 1-800-496-7278 I would recommend what is call WAX BLAST they come in 3oz or 6oz bottles.
Now the fun part to apply this product you must first get the treadmill and walk on it for about 5min to heat up the deck, then stop the unit with your product go to upper third of the belt lift edge of the belt stick the nozzle between the belt and deck squeeze the bottle approx. amount 1 tbs of wax to the center then get back on the treadmill and walk for 10 min this is to heat up the wax so that belt will act like a wick to absorb wax! This should be done every 3 months or so. Their a catch if this does fix the problem you may be investing in a new belt and possible and new deck. Hope this take of it!!

Loss signal or No Speed: 3 possible areas that can be causing the problem speed sensor , motor control Board ( MCB ) or the drive motor. Unplug unit remove motor shroud then plug in unit now on the MCB their should be L E D s lights should be on. One of the L E D s should speed on other P W M . Start your treadmill you see the PWM light flickering thus the upper console and cable connections are good now it will go back L S. Reset your treadmill then manually start pushing the running belt now the speed light should be flickering if it does then the peed sensor is good if not flickering then replace sensor. If we have a good speed sensor then I would check the Drive Motor this done unplugging the unit the disconnect the two leads coming from the motor to MCB then by using a fully charge 18v drill battery connecting the leads to the motor should move it at approx; 1 mph then Your MCB is defective and need to be replaced. if no belt movement you for the most part will have worn brushes or open windings in the motor , I would open the brush compartment and inspect the brushes if they are less than 3/8" in length replace them this should the motor issue. Good Luck
