Question about Canon Rebel XT / EOS 350D Digital Camera

Can't adjust shutter speed in Tv shutter-priority mode

I just tried to use the Tv shutter-priority mode on my Rebel XT for the first time. When I turn the dial the shutter speed will only increase, reaching 4,000 (the max), but it will not decrease. Once it hit 4,000 it was stuck there. I had to use the "clear all camera settings" function to return to the default modes. When I went back to the Tv mode, the shutter speed was now 150. Again, I can only increase it, not decrease it, and once I turn the dial to a higher number, I cannot lower it. Can anyone help me? Thanks

I'm using the sports mode and all my shots are blurry and orange

It may just be too dark for action photography. Try turning your ISO up to 1000+. Set your computer in Tv (Time Priority Mode). Use the top wheel to adjust the shutter time to something like 200 or greater. Keep an eye on the aperture value. If it starts flashing, you don't have enough light to support your settings.

My Canon Rebel XTi seems to randomly take shots and more often not. Any idea what could be causing this?

If the camera appears to be working properly in some pictures and not others I'm going to suggest you look at your Shooting Modes. It's very possible that the mode dial has been turned to the TV mode which is Shutter Priority. With the Rebel having a shutter speed of 30 seconds to 1/4000 you may click the shutter to take a pictures and the camera appear not to take the picture. A few seconds later the shutter closes and the mirror drops. This also can happen if you are in the Night Portrait mode. The length of time my be longer if the lens cap is immediately placed on the lens.

Change your mode to "P" program until you become more familiar with the camera functions and settings

In either Tv or M mode, simply turn the command dial. In Program AE mode, press the shutter release button halfway and then turn the command dial to shift to different equivalent exposures.

We have a Canon rebel XT EOS the flash pops up no matter what the

Frustrating I am sure. I had the same problem on my first XTi. I cannot remember what the settings were, but I think I was set for portrait and had flash set as the white balance default source. Therefore the camera always popped up the flash assuming that I wanted or needed fill flash.

Change you white balance to sun/shade/tungston etc as is appropriate, choose a faster ISO speed in lower light levels and try using the P or Tv mode and use a shutter speed that generates a middle range aperature for your particular lens.

My Rebel XT automatic sport mode photos are all blurry. I noticed that the shutter speed only reads around 13. There is also a pause indicating a slower shutter speed. Any suggestions?

There isn't enough light for that scene. 1/13th of a second is the fastest at that ISO (automatically set by camera in Basic Mode) and Aperture (auto set by camera too, in Basic Mode) that the camera can handle to provide a reasonably exposed image. Try using Tv on the Mode Dial, set a higher ISO (trade off is image noise) of around 800-1600 or even 3200 if available on your camera. Set shutter speed at 200-1000 (1/200th to 1/1000th of a second) and see if it freezes your subject. An external flashlight with hi-sync mode would help in this situation if the subject is not too far away.

Manually setting shutter speed and aperture..

First off, welcome to the world of photography! Good luck and have fun!!!

Like any slr, you have the option of Manual exposure. I'm not familiar w/ modern Canons (I use Nikon). According to this page, however, you also have aperture priority and shutter priority. I'm pretty sure ALL modern Canons have bracketing modes as well (Use this for HDR).

I couldn't find the 450 manual (I'm assuming Canon's web devs are behind), but I did find the instruction manual for the 400 :

Should be similar, probably w/o some of the functions. Although you SHOULD have a book w/ your camera ;). Read it thoroughly.

Ok, according to the 400 manual, put your camera into Manual mode, then adjust the regular dial to adjust shutter speed. Then, to adjust aperture, hold in the A/V button while you adjust the same dial.

Like I said, may be a bit different. I think the dial may even be digital buttons rather than analog...

hope this helps!!!

Pictures too dark

The settings in Auto Mode are factory set. If you want to adjust exposure and shutter speeds then you will have to shoot in Manual Mode (TV=Shutter Priority, AV=Aperture Priority, M=Full Manual)

Aperture priority, shutter priority

You might try overriding the white balance by setting it for fluorescent. Those bulbs are the usual cause of the green hue

Trying to take pictures in low light conditions inside a theater.

when you use high ISO like 800-1600 it will create big novice on image, and when you using law ISO it will be dark for sure.
so the solution is switch cam to TV mode and put into very law shutter speed and use ISO 200-400,make sure you are connected to tripod or else you will not get fine results with law shutter speed. point is when you use law shutter speed camera will take more light to censor even with law ISO your images will be perfect.
