The BOOT.INI file may be corrupt. Boot to a command prompt and rename original file c:\ren boot.ini boot.tmp. Now type edit. and insert the following script.
[boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
Save as boot.ini. Alt key gives you the menu options You can also create the file elsewhere and copy to c:\ Remember to rename original. Note! This is a single partition standard from factory configuration.
So far I see no problem. For some reason. you chose to boot Windows in safe mode. During that boot mode, the screen goes black and starts displaying lines of text detailling all the drivers it is loading. At the end of the process Windows will run in safe mode. Try rebooting normally or rebooting to the last good configuration that worked. If there are problems please be more specific.
Delete the OS Command line inside the MSConfig indow by clicking start - run -type msconfig then press enter. On the MS config window click on the boot.ini tab then you will see the command line inside the text box. Leave the first command line from [Boot Loader] till the end of the command line of your Default Operating system.
Example:
(Leave this lines)
[boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
(Till here!)
(Delete this line) default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Viz XP Example line Professional" /fastdetect (up to here)
any other command line that says Viz XP -- you may delete it. Click apply button then Restart the computer afterwards and this should fix the issue.
Should you have any other questions just please leave a comment.
Boot.ini is correct, but looks default is booting from Disk2 and partition 1 which is your G:\ 500 GB.
Try Copying boot.ini from c:\boot.ini to g:\boot.ini It might help
In your example I see missing "\" after partition(1), may be typing mistake, but in real time can generate error.
You boot.ini looks exactly same in both drive c:\ & G:\
[boot loader] timeout=10 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(1)\WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="GUY DRIVE XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
Note: boot.ini will be hidden and readonly file. You need to unhide the file and remote the read only option and then only you will be able to save the boot.ini file
if you are using windows xp, then follow these steps: 1) right click "my computer" icon, select "advanced" tab, click settings button towards the right of "start up and recovery" and click "edit" tab a notepad window appears with some text in it which reads something like this :
[boot loader] timeout=0 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /FASTDETECT
modify that text to look like this: [boot loader] timeout=0 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /FASTDETECT /3GB /userva=2800 /NoExecute=Op
Warning : only the "/3GB /userva=2800 /NoExecute=Op" has to be added extra else you will mess up
2) save the notepad and insert max ram, and check, if any BSOD's if the problem persists, then it is hardware related.. Most probably one of your ram stick may be the problem child(which may be either incompatible with your motherboard or defective)
what are the things that you added recently, hardware(additional hdd, memory, video card) or software (antivirus, office, etc games.) try running a hard drive diagnostics, usually computer manufacturer install a hdd diagnostics on their BIOS that you can run. hit me back on the results.
If this is all you are seeing, then this is not an error. What is happening here is that your computer is loading Safe Mode. This is a way to load Windows operating system without any extra software or programs, using the most basic drivers and software to load. There are a lot of benefits to accessing this mode, especially if you installed a program that stops you from getting into Normal Mode, or you have a virus that does the same. It makes it easy to troubleshoot. Here is a link to a website with a little more info:
the following id taken from my own XP media centre laptop.
line 1 [boot loader] line 2 timeout=30 line 3 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS line 4 [operating systems] line 5 multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Windows XP Media Center Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
ignore the "line 1,2,3 etc" I added them for clarity the formatting in this answer pane messes up the last line.
also before you get to edit the start up file make sure that the default operating system listed is the sae as line 5 starting from the "
I would suggest using the Windows Disk, if you have one, go through normal windows installation. At the point of installation just after pressing F8 it will detect windows exists and offer you a repair option press R to repair
