This would require the use of advanced diagnostic software to determine where the ECM is setting the timing.

Keep in mind the fuel pump only comes on if the car is being cranked over with the starter motor. Have you run a fault code test on the systems computer? If not you will need the daler to do that as it requires a Mazda scan tool for the OBD1 control system.

Have the fuel; pump checked for pressure bleed down after sitting, it should hold pressure within 5 PSI of rated running pressure after shutting sown the engine for extended periods.

The spark should be blue not orange.
But given the story of how it stopped running, I would expect to find water in the gasoline.
Did you drain the tank and put fresh gas in when you changed the pump ?
Did you check with the station to see if other people had problems from the gas that day ?
You should be able to spray carb cleaner into any vac hose to get it into the intake manifold as a way to boost fuel to the cylinders. You may want to disconnect the fuel line at the injectors and check for water too.
