Question about HP Photosmart C7180 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Weird situation Dear friends I am beginning to think HP are giving up on my case. Here's my dilemma... I just recently purchased a HP C7180 Photosmart AIO printer. I have a home network where all computers are connected via the MSHome basic network protocol. I use one router, the Netgear DG834GT and connected to this router I have 1 wired XP Pro machine, 1 wireless XP Pro laptop and the most recent addition, 1 Vista HP laptop. When I went to install the HP C7180, I had no problems at first. My setup kit included the HP setup CD-ROMs for XP and Vista so I installed the respective solution CDs on each PC. All seem to be working well, until I went to use the Scan feature on the C7180 itself. When pressing "Scan Menu" and choosing "Scan to Computer", my computers were shown sometimes multiple times over and sometimes (particularly with the Vista machine), not at all. When I was able to see just one listing of my Vista laptop and tried to scan a document to it, it would inevitably crash, saying there was no connection!! FRUSTRATING. The same error where two of the same PC were shown, occurred for my XP laptop also. Both the Vista and XP laptop are wirelessly connected to the router (maybe the HP software is getting confused at this point??) The only PC which has worked and which has also loaded the complete "Scan To Computer" tools (i.e. scan to Word, image etc) is the wired XP Pro machine. The two laptops are quite literally appearing then disappearing and then appearing again multiple times (with none or limited "Scan To Computer" tools) I have checked my firewall solutions and anti-virus were switched off during the installation on each PC and in any case, each laptop only uses the Windows Firewall and the router firewall. The bizarre thing about this situation is that after running HP clean-up tools (on the Vista setup disk under folder utilities\ccc) and rebooting after each cleanup tool completed, I re-installed the software only to find that this time, the HP software could not find the C7180 (it was still located at the same IP address it was at originally). After skipping the "Find printer" steps in the HP setup, I went into Control Panel and chose Printers then Add Printer. After choosing Network printer, and locating the C7180 (it was still there!!) and installing the driver (C7180 Photosmart BT (I think the BT is bluetooth and that's what my C7180 has), I WAS ABLE to print a Print Test Page from the Windows dialogue. However, after restarting the Vista PC, I tried to use the HP Solution Center but this comes up with an error: "No HP devices found" Please, can somebody help, because HP has been unable to, despite about 3 days of ringing them and them ringing me back, I am still stuck with a printer that only partly functions and that I paid alot of money for - $350 AUD (about $310 USD) If anyone knows of similar experiences and how they solved them, please let me know!

I'm having similar issues. I have a PC with XP Pro SP3 and a laptop with Vista Ultimate. The PC is connected to the printer via USB and to a D-Link DIR-655 router. The laptop is connected to the network wirelessly over the router. I was able to print to the printer wirelessly (although sporadically) from the laptop until I did a Vista upgrade on the laptop, now I can't print from the laptop at all. On the laptop, I deleted the printer in Control Panel-->Printers. I then tried to add it back. Windows Vista found the printer on the network, but when I tried to add it, it said I needed to install the printer driver. When I clicked NEXT to have Windows find the driver, I got an error message that there was not enough memory to perform the operation?!? I wasn't sure if I needed to install the driver on the laptop or re-install the driver on the PC. I installed the driver on the laptop from the HP website, however I got the same result. I uninstalled the driver from the laptop. I was thinking about uninstalling and reinstalling the driver on the PC, but I am nervous about doing that since the printer works on the PC just fine. Any suggestions are very much appreciated.

I recieve Ink System failure error message with error code 0xc18a0206 on my HP PHOTOSMART C7180 ALL-IN-ONE PRINTER.

The error that you are having is a hardware issue, it means your printer has an Ink System Failure. Believe me, there's no use going through troubleshooting for this one. Call HP and just Upgrade your printer. HP Printer Tech Support would be more than happy in giving you discounts and an extra year of warranty for $1.00.

Upgraded from a c6100 series to a C7180. Everything ok, except left margin differs - truncates leftmost character. All settings seem identical.

One of my customer, C7180 have this problem was when printing pictures, they crop about 1/8-inch off each side of a picture and then enlarge it to fit the paper. Problem seems to involve using the 4"x6" paper tray - using 8.5x11 paper does not cause this.
Eventually he called up HP and they confirm it was the hardware problem and they replace him with another unit.
Suggest give HP a call if it's under warranty unit..

HP Photosmart C7180 won't print!! I had an IT person come to my home earlier today, and it was printing when she left. Not 20 minutes after she left, it wouldn't print for me!!! This is the second time...

It would seem that your default 'printer' is set to fax and not print.
When you select print from the file menu it probably says something like HP Photosmart C7180 Fax in the printer option. If it does, go into the printer section from the control panel and make the C7180 (without the fax reference) the default (right click>set as default)

Hp c7180 Photosmart Printer stopped printing legible characters

The print heads are actually located on the bottom of the print cartridges. Remove each one and inspect. If you find nothing then check under the print cartridge carrier while the cover is open and the carrier is in the service position.

I would like to tell u that since vista was lauched it had some driver compatibility issues with most of the printers , however its been nearly one year now that vista has been in the marketplace & almost most of the issues have been taken care of.

However in case u would like to get a recommendation on compatibility > being a technician i would suggest you to go for Hp Photosmart C 7280 all in one printer .
