Question about Sony Network Walkman NW-A3000 MP3 Player

1 Answer

Mono output? Hi there, i have a query regarding the player. Any music i transfer over seems to be playing in a mono mode). Is it related to teansferal of the music or is there likely to be a problem with the headphone socket? Can you tell me if i can change some setting somewhere on the player or software. Cheers, Phil O

Probably the socket connection to the board. These sockets on small players aren't designed to take much sideways force. Maybe possible to solder it back if the track has not been ripped off the board.

Some info from the manual:
The Dolby Digital and DTS listening modes can only be selected if your Blu-ray Disc/DVD player is connected to
the AV receiver with a digital audio connection (coaxial,
optical, or HDMI).
• The listening modes you can select depends on the format of the input signal. To check the format, see "Displaying Source Information"
• While a pair of headphones is connected, you can select the following listening modes: Mono, Direct, and Stereo.
• While Speakers A and B are on, you can select only the
Direct, Stereo, Mono, or T-D (Theater-Dimensional) listening mode.

Plus this Bit of info on the speakers A and B buttons.
While Speakers B is on, channels are reduced to 2.1 in the
main room.

If you can access the speaker configuration it should provide test tones to each speaker. If you can't the speaker A and B are not set right.
If you have pressed the stereo or mono button no sound will be heard except from the front two or the sub.

Sony Walkman MZ-E505 only mono

If the recording is mono it will play in mono. If it is SP it will play in SP.
Need more information. What happens if you record something in SP and then play it back?

My pmp6000 wont work in mon1/ mono mode. I have one speskon channel going to two mains and the other to two monitors Can't get sound.

OK... from the schematics it appears that when in mon1/mono mode you use ONLY the MON1 gain controls, including the channel MON1's and the MON1 slider. Make sure you have each of those turned up as needed. In this mode, MON2,s and the MON2 slider are unused. The MONO slider controls the MAIN output.

We are having problems with a Behringer PMP5000 board. We have the switch setting on Mon1/Mono. We can get sound out of the monitor output, but the mono output is almost silent. Do you have suggestions...

It is NOT clear what configuration you have set up and what you consider the MONO output is, whether it is the power amp MONO side output or the line level MONO 1/4 inch jack on the top of the unit (this jack is NOT speaker output). If you can run normal stereo speakers using both sides of the power amp in the AB mode, the problems you are having is pilot error.

REMEMBER the main out 1/4 inch jacks are BALANCED TRS jacks... DO NOT put mono plugs into these.

A WARNING: If you use Speakon to 1/4 inch speaker cables, remember that the BARREL of side A is HOT, not the tip!!! You can fry the amp if you inadvertently ground that barrel someplace. (Side B has the barrel grounded) This information is NOT readily available in the manual and results in many a blown amp. They do this to implement the "Bridged" mode easily.

I have schematics and can unravel most any problem you are having.

Why aren't my games playing on the nintendo fc twin?

The FC Twin connects through an RCA connector, and can be hooked into a surround sound system. When using stereo and surround output from these systems, NES sounds and music may seem very different from their typical mono output. Using output modes that properly generate mono sound, either through a single center speaker or cloned to multiple speakers, the sound output sounds mostly identical to the original NES. The FC Twin does not produce some sounds faithfully, even with mono output; sound effects in the Super Mario Bros. series games will for example immediately seem different. Nevertheless, some later models of the console produce NES sound much more faithfully than units made closer to launch. Recent models produce sound with complete fidelity.

Having problems connecting dvd player to my tv

Hi,

Normally a DVD's output would be:
Yellow - video
White - audio left (in some models mono)
Red - audio right

Based on your post/description, your movies will play normally. You simply left out the red (right output) hence you will not get stereo effect (which is immaterial since your TV is mono).

The correct procedure calls that you connect the red & white to a stereo amplifier.

Alternately, you can use the adapter shown below to connect the white & red and make them a single RCA male out.

Hope this be of use/idea. Pls post back how things turned out or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Seems to only play in Mono

Karen - Is it only the FM section that is giging you trouble? Does Stereo work for the other inputs - VCR/DVD/Turntable?
Is that stereo button ONLY for the FM section?
