The main reason for this is that... You have softwares that utilizes most part of your RAM. You may uninstall the unneeded softwares. Defragment your system periodly. And clean up your temporary folder's files and window prefetch folder prefetch folder will open if you will write prefetch in start->run.

There are few possible reasons: 1. The drive is full and fragmeted Solution: Try deleting unwanted files and burn the bulky files to a CD/DVD disk will reduce disk load. Do a deragmentation. [right click a disk drive to see properties > defragmentation.] 2. Too much softwares installed or large number of fonts installed. Solution: Install only required number of programs and fonts. Uninstall unused programs. 3. Viruses or malware affected.Your PC may be infected with viruses or malwares Solution: In this case install a good antivirus program and perform a full system scan. Also try some powerful spyware detecters. This will help reduce risk. 4. Too much servces running in the background. Solution: To reduce the number of services starting at windows startup go to > Right click > My computer > Select manage > select servoces In this tab see all the services running with windows start up. right click any service that you don't want and change its properties to manual or disabled. you can also delete the startup progams from Start > All programs > startup just delete the programs that you do not want at start up. this could solve your problem
