Router unable to connect to internet

Hi, I've been trying to get my router working again. I've updated the NIC drivers, the router firmware, changed cables- nothing seems to work. It works when I bypass the router and connect straight to the modem. I'm suspecting that there may be an issue with the router's ports. Here's a dump on ipconfig- IP Address: Subnet Mask: Default Gateway: DHCP Server: Lease Obtained: 04-Oct-07 3:06:07 PM Lease Expires: 04-Oct-07 3:06:17 PM DNS Servers:, WINS Server: This all happend when I attempted to install a Linksys VoIP ATA. I may have connected the cables incorrectly and could've fried the router. Help! Thanks, Joe

Re: Router unable to connect to internet

Are the info coming from PC connected to modem?

If you are connected to Router and pulled up that Data, you might just need a power cycle. Turn off everything from PC to router - to Modem and Power on everything starting off with the modem this time. After power cycle, check if getting the same data. If yes, then type "ping" if you have four replies then you must be able to go online, if not then disable firewall (norton, maccafee etc)

Hi! I have this Motorola MR850G router which is working whenever I use my Windows XP Work Laptop and I get internet connection and can browse and everything. However, when I use my personal laptop...

First try lowering the security of the Motorola to a WEP 64 bit encryption than try to connect with the Windows 7 box if it connects than go to the next level of security (wep 128, wpa, wpa2, and so on) see where it stops working than give me all setup information in details for me to help you... if it does not work even with NO encryption at all than it is a very good idea to update the firmware of the router after update than try re-doing the encrypting test above if it still fails, connect with a hard wire (ethernet patch cord) see if you have a connection at that point... you seam to say you reset the router but if all of the above is still not work it could be a MAC address filter rule so you could try re flashing the firmware even if it's to the latest version... compare the distance you are physically from the router when you connect with your friend's router and your's it could be a poor reception from your Win7 box....

Good luck!

My router connected to my computer says limited or no connectivity and says cannot establish a internet connection when the internet is working fine

may be it's showing limited or no connectivity on your wireless connection where it's trying to connect or may be it's connected wirelessly but your wired connection is not communicating properly with router's switch, could be due to bad port on router or bad NIC or bad cable...check in your network connection.

Internet going off VERY frequently

1. Firmware update may be required for the Router.
2. check your firewall settings and the Wireless configuration in the router.
3. You may have to allow the MAC address for the device that you are trying to connect with to have permission to connect to the network.
4. Verify IP for the the PC ( this is done in the DOS window) at the DOS prompt type "ipconfig /all" this will bring up the network report as to what is and what is not connected.
5. Unplug router and modem from the AC.
6. Reboot the PC.
7. Window is totally different from the router firmware updates.
Windows is downloading it security and web update when you see the prompt. This has nothing to do with the router.

There is an update for this router on the belkin support site. I ve given the link over here. Use this.

Download the firmware for the version that you are using. (File is less than 5MB). Save it in My Documents
Open the router page by typing in the default gateway in the address bar of your browser.
On the left hand side column, under UTILITIES, click "Firmware Update"
On the login page, leave password blank and click submit.
Click on browse, locate the firmware file in your My Documents and click Open.
Now click on update.
After updating, unplug power for 3 mins. from router and plug it back in.
**Now if this doesn't work,
Under UTILITIES, click on "Restore Factory Defaults" and wait, it ll count down and after that, try to re-configure the router for your internet connection.
This will work 100%, all the very best my friend.

Router gets disconnected

If you know how to open the setup page of the router, look for MTU. Normally it is set to Auto with default size of 1500. Now set it to manual and change the value to 1463 and save the changes. Power cycle the router by unplugging the power for 30 seconds then plug it back in. Observe your connection if it keeps on dropping.

Another is you need to isolate the problem if its the router or the modem. Try to connect your PC directly to your modem and observe if it does the same thing. If it does the same problem, call your Internet Provider to fix the modem.

If the problem still persist on the router after changing the MTU, try to update the Firmware of the router and hard reset it by pressing the reset button for 15 seconds then power cycle it.

Disconnection problems

I see. You can try changing the wireless settings of the router. You can do that by accessing the web based utility of the router. Here are the instructions:

1. Click the Start button, and then click Run.
2. Type the following text in the Open box: http://my.router
3. If this is the first time configuring your Dell Wireless 2350 Broadband Router, or if the user name and password have not been changed from the default settings, type admin in the User Name field and admin in the Password field.
4. Click the OK button. The Configuration screen appears.
5. Under the Basic settings, under Wireless Settings change the channel from Auto to 1, 6, or 11.

If that does not work, you can try updating the firmware of the router. You can download the firmware from this site:

Here are the instructions on how to upgrade:

1. Reaccess the configuration page of the router using a wired computer.
2. Click on System Tools, find Firmware Upgrade.
3. Click Browse and search for the firmware you downloaded from the site I gave you earlier. Select it and then start the upgrade. Let the firmware finish its upgrade.
