Dropping any iron is the kiss of death... dont use it again, especially on the steam setting.. you could electrocute yourself..
Dispose of it safely and get a new one. You wont make that mistake again in a hurry... I didnt!

SOURCE: DG-980 Iron: The button to use the steam is stuck. I was ironin...

Hi Mary, sounds like something jammed in the trigger mechanism or the microswitch button is stuck in the housing. Unplug the iron, let it cool. Gently pry up the blue cushion from the handle from the front towards the rear cord, you will see the trigger, the actuator tab and the microswitch button (nib) that should be sticking out, if it is flush with the housing it is jammed down. That switch is replaceable, but I don't know how savy you or your appliance servicer are at replacing it. Here is where I get my parts:

Tip & How-To about Irons
Cleaning a Laundry Iron Get some CLR descaler and mix it to the directions. Turn the iron on and set it to steam. Turn the iron off and put the CLR into it. When it has cooled a little, sit it faceplate down in an oven proof dish. Leave it over night. The CLR will drip through and sit in the dish cleaning the inside, and the topside of the soleplate. The next day, fill with water and shake upside down to empty any remaining CLR and scale through the fill hole. Keep filling and shaking to empty until the water comes clean.

If you don't want to use CLR, you can use white vinegar undiluted.

How to release the stuck steam button in Shark iron-61468-10?

If the steam button is got stuck in the down position in your iron then follow this procedures to release the stuck button:--
1) First of all pull the button up. You may have to coax it up; you can pry it back to the up position with a needle. Grasp it firmly and pull it straight off (it is fitted in place by friction only).
2) Below the button is a stem that operates the valve, gently pull it back up with a pair of needle nose pliers (careful - the stem is made up of plastic material).
3) Then replace the button (align the stem into the hole on the bottom of the button to its exact position. Cycle the button a few times with water in the reservoir. You should be back in the ironing business now! :)
It seems like it sticks when the iron is left unused condition for a period of time; as if the valve gets stuck up when dry. leave water in it this time, although the instruction manual says not to. But leaving the water in it may not let it get dry.
This will help.good luck.

Disassemble?

I recently had a problem with the steam button. It somehow during normal use came off its track in the handle and was stuck down in the "slot". After several searches online and this site i tried a knife along all the edges trying to figure out how to disassemble the iron. Well one quick flick with my knife to the side of the steam button and it came out. Well the surprise was the screw under these buttons. Hopefully this can help someone looking to disassemble the iron when they have problems.

More than likely your steam valve is broken or stuck. I had one of these and they are worth having repaired. Google Rowenta Repair Center.

How to release the stuck steam button stuck in the up position in a morphy richard

On this model i believe you have to slide the button back to release perminent steam function. I am not sure what screws are on this iron as to what they are called.

regards, I hope this was useful.

What can be done about leaking steam?

ensure your iron steam button is not set into perminent steam function. leaving the iron with the point of the iron pointing upwards should reduce steam to the handle. also the iron may need to be descaled to ensure any steam switch funtion is not stuck in an on position.

Steam button stuck

put some vinegar in your iron and swash it around. It will remove the calcium or lime that is making your button stuck. Be sure to run a lot of water through the iron after or your clothes will stink.

Rowenta steam iron no longer steams

Your local grocery or hardware store will sell "descaler" for coffee pots and irons.

Mix as instructed (water/descaler) and pour the disolved mix into the iron. Set the iron on the highest steam settings (heat and steam volume). After it is hot, let it steam into the sink, pressing the steam button over and over to let the descaler work through all the tubes/passages, until it has all been pumped out.

Refill with more descaler (if it is not completely unplugged) and repeat until you are satisifed with how the iron is working.

After descaling, run clean water through it with the same process (but no descaler) several times.
