Go into the setup menu into the audio options (use arrows on remote to go up and down menu and press left to enter the next menu to change options). By memory when I was running this just through a TV and not through a surround sound system, I had to turn off the addition speaker options in the audio menu. The one's like centre speaker etc have an small/large/off option. I had to turn these off so that all sound would come through the TV speaker only. That is about all I remember as I was trying to get this running for my aunt and I no longer have the DVD player.

I had same problem, I did as drewbar suggested above. My settings are: bass - off; front speakers - large; Center speakers - none; surrour speakers - none; sub-woofer - none; test tones - off; center speaker delay - no delay; surround speaker delay - no delay; digital output - off. Got sound!

My panasonic dvd player is not playing the sound of the main character's voices on two diff. dvd's. Background noise and music is fine. The disks work on another dvd player, and other disks have no problem...

You are listening to a Dolby Digital source and you either don't have a center speaker hooked up or, it's not enabled. If you only have 2 speakers connected to a surround receiver, switch your receiver from surround to surround off. If this doesn't work, or you need more help, specify your system and how it's all hooked up.

Sound on DVDs

It sounds like she has the player set to output 5.1 surround sound, but only has left and right channel speakers hooked up. Either change the dvd player to only send two channels or hook up a center channel speaker.

I have a Pioneer DV 585A DVD player that happily plays DVDs and the background sounds seems to be fine, but on some of the DVDs you can hear the voices of the characters speaking and then on another you...

Hi edwardm1,

If you are only hearing part of the audio from your DVD player, I would suggest you check your audio settings before seeking repairs.

Audio can be encoded to a DVD in several ways. If the audio on the disc is different than the settings on your DVD player, you may not hear all of the audio layers. For example, if your DVD is encoded in 5.1 Surround Sound, but your DVD player is set only to play basic Stereo, you may only hear portions of the audio.

Try accessing the menu on your DVD player, and look for the audio settings. If there is a higher setting available than is currently selected, try a higher audio setting. A higher setting should also be compatible with lower types of audio encoding.

If this does not improve your audio, or if you need help navigating your product menus, I would recommend giving Pioneer's toll-free support line a call at (800) 421-1404.

Thank you,

Sound

It is due to setting of Audio options in 5.1 and having only 2 speakers for stereo. For enabling conversion select "stereo" option from Memu under sub category "Audio"

Bose 321 DVD System

I love my Bose 321 DVD system, but a few days ago, it started acting weird. I put in a DVD, and it reads - "No Disc".....and I'm not sure why. I cleaned the disc, and I also played a DVD/CD Maintenance kit - I'm not sure what is wrong. It seems like I have a problem within the system - what can I do?

I have this DVD player, and it has surround sound connectors, and seperately L/R connectors.

Whilst the L/R should mix-down the surround sounds, it doesn't appear to and only actually play the surround sound left and right.

My solution was to plug one of the RCA leads into the "Center" of the surround output, (can leave the other in the L or R slot)

you'll then get voice, out one speaker and ambient sounds out of the other.. It sucks, but that's why this things a freebie.. it's not well designed :P
