Re: MDS-JE 520

Mainboard failure due IC 501 underneath the circuitboard. You need to replace the whole board, or find another MD second hand (much cheaper).

Re: MDS-JE 520

What the problem sounds like is that your power button on ur main deck is broken or its in a standby mode activated by the remote. like some new dvd players that have the click in power button on the front u can turn them off by remote saving having to turn on the whole unit again from the main to use it.

Power switch

The red standby light is always on. It should only change when you press 'power'. When you turn it off, it is on 'standby', meaning you can switch the switch to make it start-up in play or record mode by using a timer and the switch below the power switch. This is normal for Sony.

What speakers are for MDS JE 330

Any kind you want. The MDS JE330 needs to be connected to an amplifier to use regular loudspeakers, so the choice depends on your amplifier, room size and budget.

You can also connect small active or passive speakers designed for portable units such as mp3 players or those used on desktop pc's to the headphone socket, but the sound quality won't be very good.

JE 480..I,m trying to connect it to an amplifier. The manual shows 4 rca connectors at the back, going into 4 in the amp. I only have 2 (per channel), in the amp. So I just use two into two. When i play...

Try another recording to eliminate the media as the cause.

Find the two audio OUTs (Left and Right) on the player and plug them into the Left and Right Audio IN's of any available input on the amplifier. It sounds like you're either missing one of the channels or you have them plugged into different inputs.

Is it an MDS-JE530? Do you have a minidisc in it? If yes, then unplug the unit. Slide the little switch from TIMER "OFF" to "PLAY", then plug the unit back in. After 10 seconds, it should turn on and start playing the minidisc. Let me know if that works or if we need to try something else, okay?

Start button not working standby light staying

The switch is for 'REC' 'Standby' and "PLAY".
If you leave it switched to "Play" and pull the plug and push it in to the wall receptacle (mains) it should start playing after a few seconds delay. The same for "REC". You use a timer unit on the power cord for those.
If you have the switch in the middle position and plugged-in, you should have a tiny Red LED illuminated. Push "Power" and it should start-up and be ready to use in a matter of a few seconds.

Mini Disc Not Working

Pull the power cord. Make sure the three-position switch with "REC/Standby/PLAY" is in the middle position, then plug the cord back in. Wait a minute, then press POWER. Now load a disk and wait 1 minute for it to read the Table of Contents (TOC). Either it will show the tracks, or it will say 'empty disk'. Let us know what happens from there, okay?

Sony MDS JE-320 not recording

This is a common problem with the overwrite head on these units. There is a two wire connection going to it which fails after a couple of years of service. Or for some reason the overwrite head does not make contact to the MD disk surface, it is suppose to when recoding or writing the TOC.
This overwrite head assembly is very very delicate, provided you feel comfortable to work on it you can probably fix it. Or find a local electronics technician to help you with that.

Do some reading on the Minidisc Forum

Hope this helps
