To start, it may be a longshot, but try turning off bluetooth, in case that is interfering with the sound, or sending the sound elsewhere, like to a bluetooth speaker or cell phone. Also, try downloading the ESET NOD32 online virus scanner using Fireofox, to rule out any pesky viruses messing with your VAIO.
If problem persists....
Open the start menu, and check around for any VAIO support software that can check your system for errors and hopefully fix them.
If problem persists....
Open the sound icon next to the date and time on the lower right portion of the screen, and open the mixer, where you are able to see the volume for mic, speaker, and a bunch of other things. Check to see that no mute has been selected, or that no audio has been disabled.
If problem persists....
Look inside the control panel, and find sounds and audio. When you open it, click around and see it the wrong audio device got somehow selected, or if NO audio device is selected, and go ahead and select a different device from the drop down menu to see if picking another device fixed the issue.
If problem persists....
Next look inside your device manager, and see if the audio device shows up, and hopefully it does, then see if it has a yellow exclamation point next to it. Even if it does not, click on it, and find the option to add or update the driver for it. You may have to insert the restore DVD that (hopefully) came with your VAIO.
If problem persists....

The next options, in case nothing has worked, are to do a full reinstall of your Windows OS, drastic but we are at that point. Or else, I have seen instances where the actual sound card in the laptop has died, which would be one reason why Windows no longer recognizes any audio device as being there.
I hope one of these fixed the issue for ya!

SOURCE: SONY DVD RW AW-G540A ATA DEVICE IS NOT WORKING

If the device is listed you can select it and click uninstall, then promptly reboot the computer and it will automaticly reinstall it, you should be up and running in no time if that works, if not it could be a registry error related to the upper and lower filters that could take a bit of skill to repair. please let us know if the lights come on at all or the drive spools up and makes any sound. if not you might be calling sony for a replacement

cheers

Vaio TXN19P no audio!

Hi,

Appreciate the direct "Ask Me".

Audio problem(s) on any computer system could either be hardware (least likely) or driver issues (most likely).

That being said, you could initially try:
  • change your speaker/headset;
  • verify that the sound device is enabled in your CMOS/BIOS configuration/settings;
  • check Device Manager/Sound Controller, there should be no yellow or red markings. If so, try re-installing the drivers.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

No audio device on notebook

Cable3,

Sounds like you indeed have a problem with an audio hardware driver. Presumably the 'Audio Device on High Definition Bus' is the system detecting a device it doesn't have a driver installed for.

First question - was the sound working previously? If so, did you recently install any type of audio software not related to the sound device itself?

Please provide the exact model number of the VAIO notebook and we can point you to the correct driver and try that for starters.
