I think I have the same problem - TV was working fine earlier in the day, then this evening all digital channels are low def 480i and I am not getting anything except analog- says weak signal or channel not available - how do you switch it back to 1080i - signal meter is upper 70's but no picture or sound, have check all the menus but don't see anything for this??? What makes it go low def?? Turned the TV off/on to see if it would reset itself but nothing still.

How do I change video resolution from 480I to 1080p on a toshiba 55sl417u??

The video source dictates what it will show on the screen, 480i video input = 480i display.
If the video source is not 1080p, it will not show 1080p. It works the same as your PC monitor, you adjust the resolution at the PC Video card setting not at the monitor.

Don't used the Blu Ray player on the tv HDMI out put hub.Used the connections for of the Blu Ray player connections by a S-Video cable for the video and the RCA component cable R,W for the connections for the audio out.The high Def.cable box will not work for high Def. this way,but the Blu Ray player will.

Trying to run too many programs at the same time can cause display problems such as jittery or choppy video. If you notice erratic or reduced visual performance on your computer, try one or more of the actions described below.

1.The more programs you have open, the more system resources Windows needs. Try closing programs that you're not currently using, or reducing the window size.

2.Even if you have only a few programs running, some programs (such as video-editing programs) and features (such as high-definition television) use a lot of system resources. Running too many of these programs at the same time puts a strain on system resources and might degrade display quality or make video appear jittery or disconnected.

On some computers, very high resolution require a lot of system resources to display properly. If you notice problems at high resolutions, try lowering the resolution until the problems disappear.

1 open display from control panel

  1. In the left pane, click Adjust resolution.

  2. In the Resolution list, click the resolution you want, and then click Apply.

If you set the DPI higher than 96, and you're running the Aero desktop experience, the text and other items on the screen might appear blurry in some programs that aren't designed for high-DPI display. To avoid this problem, follow these steps:

720p is putting out signal of 480i or p only

Your Tv has its own settings for high definition.

Look in your manual for appearance setting and turn the tv to 720p high definition.

That should be enough. OH! And make sure your PS3 is set for HD output too! My HD tv downconverts occasionally when the Uverse box shuts off and defaults to low def output.

I do not know how to work the display resolution

The tv display resolution will automatically change depends on your source/device output resolution and TV inputs used as well. Television component and HDMI inputs accept 480i up to 1080p signal while composite and s-video accepts 480i(lowest resolution) signals only. You will get high resolution signals from cablebox, game consoles, bluray etc through their component or HDMI output jacks.

Audio/video feedback noise

to solve your problem you need to use hdmi or component high quality cables...if you got a Ps3 to work with high video power...1080p ... I think you are losing time using this console with 480i audio and video low resolution cables...You need to understand that the simple sony A/V cable is made to use with Playstation One. Buy and install a hdmi cable in your Ps3 ...and you you see the huge difference...

We have cable T.V. should we run the cable though T.V. when we use s-video cables or use cable though vcr then T.V.

I would hope that you would use a HDMI cable to connect your cable box to your LCD TV - why not display the highest resolution to your screen that you can. HDMI will transmit the 1080P high def signal to your screen. These cables can be found at Wallmart and Target or even Best Buy. Don't need the most expensive and or a 6' length or short will work just fine.
Then use your S-Video cable to connect your VCR/DVD to your LCD TV - This is not a High Def signal - only 480i if that. The P means Progressive or 1080 lines from top to bottom. the I means Interlaced to which means 240 lines once for field one then 240 lines for field two.
You may want to think of a blue ray player to which upconverts your older DVD's to 4x3 High Def resolution.

Blessings,

Hd ready?

On any High Def TV, the reciever you need for this set, which does not have a HD receiver in it, is half the equation. Most HD channels have some HD content mixed with SD content on the same channel. SD content on HD signal from cable or satellite tends to be slightly blocky due to the native signal resolution and the resolution of HD (1080i/p or 720i/p).
