Question about Garmin StreetPilot c340 GPS Receiver

2 Answers

Internal battery The battery on my Garmin C340 never had any problem keeping a charge before, then one day it completely failed and will not accept a charge from the car, even though the screen on the GPS is telling me the battery is charging. The unit does work fine as long as it is in the cradle. I did notice the day before, the suction cup had failed and fell off the window with the unit attached. It happened over night and was hanging by the cord for what could have been hours. I've opened the unit up, and looked for loose wires, but found none. The plate at the top of the unit (which I believe is the antennae) did slide out very, very easily.... it had two black wires attached to it, but I would have thought it would have been anchored in place. I put the unit back together again, and it works just fine as long as it is in the cradle, but as soon as the car is turned off, the unit goes dead. I did hit the reset button to no avail. I've also hooked it up with the USB cable to the computer, the unit turns on, but again, the battery doesn't accept a charge. Any thoughts?

Re: internal battery

My Garmin has the same problem. I contact the Garmin technical support service and describe this problem, and I were told that my unit may not operating correctly from what I described, and should be returned to the factory for service.
The flat rate of repair for this unit is $150.00, however this would be covered under warranty if it is less than one year from the date of purchase. I don't recommend to repair your unit if it was out of warranty. You can buy a brand new one at this repair cost. You might know that Walmart is now selling this unit at about $180.00.

C340 is showing low battery. how do i change the battery?

It has a 12 volt power cable for the internal battery. Do you have the cable - refer to the owners manual (free download via the Garmin site) for more info. The internal battery is not normally replaced.

Can not get StreetPilot C340 to turn on

Yes its most likely the battery, if you plug it into the charger, I assume it powers up normally? Il see if I can get you instructions on battery replacement. I remember there was one for your model or a similiar one. Hold on.

My Garmin c340 has won't turn on, screen is completly dark unit is charged

I has the same problem with a streetpilot 540.. It wouldn't turn on, even once charged. There was no reset button under the serial number. However, prise off the grey plastic square plate on the front panel which goes around the screen. ( there's even a little space for your fingernail under the Garmin logo). The reset button is under that plate. Press that with a screwdriver then turn on. My unit turned on once reset.

Charging unit with AC adapter

I have a 100v A/C power / charger unit for my garmin C340 GPS that I use to charge my Garmin's battery every day. I can use thj adapter to run the GPS, or just turn it off and let it charge the GPS. But it connects dirctly to the Garmin GPS unit, not to the cradle like the Cigarrette lighter unit does. .

From a complete drained battery it took me about 2 hours of charging via the USB cable hooked up to my computer to fully charge it.

Garmin c340 gps freezes up

Avoid buying Garmin GPS. Their units have a non user replaceable battery that last about 2 years. After that, you have to send the unit to Garmin to replace the battery and be hit with at least $150 plus shipping. Possibly more if they need to fine tune something else. Look at other brands with easier battery replacement such as Sony, Navigon, etc. Garmin is a total rip off.
