Question about Rival 38601 Smart Pot 6-Quart
I can't find a site that sells a replacement glass crock for my rival crock pot model # (38601). I was wondering if you knew of any. Do you think it is even worth replacing or should i just buy a new one?
Go to www.crockpot.com and click on replacement parts. The glass lid is $10 and sold through a company called jardenstore. They are connected with crockpot.com. The companies phone number is 1-800-323-9519 It is worth replacing

I'm not sure who thought making the crock-pots with breakable lids was a good idea. My original Rival crock-pot (with plastic lid) is 30-years old and still works great. The recent new crock-pot I purchased to host larger parties was defective. Rival/Crock-Pot/Jarden kindly replaced it free of charge with a substitute crock pot that had a glass/crockery lid. It broke immediately when removing it from the packaging. My fault, I agree, but the replacement lid is $18 with an $8.95 shipping fee. I will be better off spending $30-$40 on a slow cooker that does NOT have a breakable lid and should not have any need to replace anything in the next 15-30 years. Perhaps I am being too optimistic :)

My lid is broken as well and I just spoke with the company mentioned above that sells the replacements and they are still out of stock with no idea when they will have them. When I mentioned I will probably have to replace my crockpot becuase I just couldnt be without one for that long, she said using aluminum foil works just fine. I guess it would since the lids arent designed to be airtight anyways. Hope that helps - use aluminum foil!

Sounds to me, since the broken lids are so popular, the company better stock lid Qtys. better than what they are doing now.

My lid broke as well for the 37601 as well as the plastic handles on the sides of the outer heating portion. Glad I received this as a gift! While the lid is permanently out of stock (it's April 2008) I don't think it's sound advice to shell out another $10 on junk anyway. I'll use aluminum foil until I can find a model with a sturdier lid handle!
Thanks for the advice.

Thanks for the info on www.crockpot.com! I looked all over for a replacement for the stonewear inside (I put mine on the stove & it cracked!). I think it's crazy that it's dishwasher safe, oven safe, microwave safe, but not stove safe! Anyways, the part is out of stock, but at least I can check back w/ the site from time to time -- or just buy a new one I guess!
