Blue Screen

Tried to update drivers. While updating .... I got a blue screen with a crash dump. Laptop shutdown and restarted. I chose the start windows in safe mode to check things out. I only saw one driver problem. Restarted laptop. It's moving slowly. Could memory be an issue? I've never upgraded the memory.

- I've ordered two Patriot 2GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Laptop Memory chips and will install them as soon as I get them. Thank you for such fast response. I will let you know if this solves the issue.

- k... here we go... before I could get the new chips installed ... the laptop crashed again and this time it will not boot. I get the Acer screen with the F2 option to go into BIOS but nothing else. It comes up to a blank screen with the blinking cursor in the top upper lefthand corner. Tried a manual boot and operating system is not found. I went ahead and installed the new chips. Looks like I might need a recovery disk from Acer unless there is a way around that. I tried the Alt F10 function and that failed as well.

- I installed a new hard drive and upgraded the ram. Laptop is working perfectly now with the exception of my wireless problem (still working on that). The old hard drive would not allow boot with old and new ram. It would not boot even with the system cd. So, the new hard drive was the trick. Thanks.

u can try installing the OS but if the OS recovery files in ur safe partition was affected and u are unable to restore OS from them then it is a possible Hard Disk Failure and for the recovery later on u need Recovery Disk from Acer u can order them they will send u mail for the recovery disk

but u need to buy a new hard drive , First u can try installing OS from Recovery disk u get from Acer if it doesnt help u shud buy a new hard drive , its failure is much frequent, these days bcoz of jerks and bumps its a daily wear and tear

but i am now sure in my solution

Hi I am vortash .. if I may suggest that the cmos has registered the old ram and you havent saved the new one to the configuration yet and on top of the problem you had the computer is finding it hard to comply with conflicting data , Put your old ram back in and ree boot
once or IF the bios screen becomes available press defaults on all systems and rebboot .. if you have a system recovery disk now would be a good time to insert it .. allow the windows disk to recover your hd and after your system is working again then place in your new ram depending on the age of your laptop systems now are not so dependant on paired ram but should you have the older set up I am afraid you will need a matched pair to effect a boot . If you check in your bios on the first boot in the advanced configuration should be a setting marked memory parity turn it off or ie disable it and the new ram will be accepted paired or not ... hope this helps regards Vortash
