Question about HP OfficeJet 7410 All-In-One InkJet Printer
My 7410 worked fine with XP, but when I tried to use it with Vista, the Vista software update (Solutions Center (SC) scanning software) would not function. I've spent day-after-day over the last six months on the phone with HP tech support doing the same things over and over with no luck. My real frustration comes because their tech support won't even admit there is a problem. I KNOW they know there's a problem because I've read about many users with the same experience. I've asked to be escalated. The TS rep said he would, but no one ever called me. This trying to get help from HP has been going on since April 2007. Someone at Microsoft helped me with a couple of workarounds using the hpqscnvw.exe file, and of course, I can type the IP address into a Web page and use part of the scanner features. The problem is using the IP address allows me to scan to a .pdf document, but not use the automatic document feeder, and using the hpqscnvw.exe file allows me to use the document feeder, but not scan to a .pdf file. The SC is what I need. I spent days on Chats with HP tech support in the spring without any resolution. Finally, I gave up until today, thinking maybe by now HP had fixed the Solutions Center software glitch. Not so, and tech support is still not admitting that there is a problem. I could understand if they would just admit it and tell me when they expected a fix. I would wait and reinstall the software then, but this refusal to admit there?s even a problem really has destroyed my respect for HP as a company. I was a real HP user until now, even recommending their products to friends, students, etc. NO MORE!!! I'll not buy HP again, nor will I recommend them. I?m soooooooooo frustrated. Has anyone here had this problem or found a fix for this yet?
I have to agree wholehearted with the first post here. I too have been totally frustrated by HP's flat denial of a problem here, despite reporting extremely detailed error information, including memory crash dumps. This is a widespread problem, yet everyone's efforts to get the issue escalated past the level one "support" have proved completely fruitless.
I've been a long time supporter, but I am now totally disillusioned with HP, and vow never to buy one of their products again.

Instead of using the 7400/7410 (somewhat generic driver), use the driver for the HP 6500 instead. Many of your problems will go away. After installing the 6500 driver, go to Properties, then to the "Device Settings" tab. Set the upper tray for whatever special paper you have there (such as envelopes or letterhead). Also, set the "duplex unit" option to "Installed". I am very happy now.

The CD which has shipped with the Printer contains the XP compatible software. In order to use the all in one in VIsta operating system, You have to download ad install the VIsta compatible hp software, Whose link is this
By installing XP compatible software, we cant update it to vista compatible software by visiting hpcom or any other sites

Had the same problem with HP OfiiceJet j4680 on a friends puter system. Looks like HP still has programming difficulties with their people. I installed their latest fix dated Nov, 2009 and am here to say it STILL does not work! The system is a brand new Dell with Windows Vista Home Premium X64. A quick uinstall of HP Solution Center did the trick. Too bad, looked intersting. HP is not the only printing Solution out there.

Here is a work-around that I created. It's a simple AutoIt script that turns the Tablet PC Input Service on or off (so that you can scan while the service is off).

The problem is that instead of re-writing the SC software, it just keeps getting updated while piling on more complex features and backwards compatibility with older printers. Notice that the SC exe is still named hpdirec.exe after its original name HP Director. You may be able to scan from Adobe itself, otherwise the real solution is to re-install Windows.

HP Officejet Pro L7780 All-in-One operating in Vista Home Premium 32 bit had same/similar problem - at first scanner worked but not the printer & fax then printer/fax working but scanner not & hpqscnvw stopped working message from Windows
After fruitless but always polite responses from HP telephone helpline and far too many hours wasted the solution no 5 above downloading the XP compatible software & installing it finally worked for me

I thought I was reading my own writing in the first post! It's IDENTICAL to my experience. Promises to escalate to "level 2" support and then no communication. I've used their online support on at least 10 separate occassions, and have yet to have any success. It gets to the point, where you can tell they know they can't help you and they dump by "requiring a reboot" after yet another 'level 2,3,4' uninstall/install, removing TSR programs, or some other approach that doesn't work. Their complete denial of a problem and ineffective technical support has completely destroyed my preference for HP products.

Unplug any USB Graphics Tablets. This solved my problem with HP's J5780 All-In-One with the same error message when scanning.

HERE'S THE STORY. HP DID NOT DO THERE HOMEWORK AND THEY NEW THAT A NEW OPERATING SYSTEM WILL BE COMING OUT SOON. WHICH IS VISTA.
I SPOKE TO THE HP TECH AND SO FAR THERE'S NO SOLUTION FOR THIS. BUT I WAS TOLD THAT BECAUSE OF THE ONGOING COMPLAINTS THAT, THEY WILL HAVE A DRIVER THAT WILL WORK WITH VISTA.
HERE'S MY SUGGESTION.
IF YOU NEED TO USE ALL OF THE FEATURES OF YOUR PRINTER. INSTALL A SECOND OPERATING SYSTEM ON YOUR HARD DRIVE.
ALL THE FEATURES WORKS XP.
IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO IT, HAVE A TECHNICIAN DO IT FOR YOU.
