Both Office 2004 and OS are up to date. 2ghx intel Core Duo, 2gb ram, running 10.4.10, also running Office 2004, 11.3.7.
Have boss that is extensive user of Office (both Word and Entourage). He is attorney and needs to keep all 3.5gb of emails (he has all he ever sent since company founded, not option to archive, and has to use spotlight to search for emails).
But, we notice that his system runs slow. When he tries to type email or word document, the letter are delayed greatly (about 30 seconds). Even if both applications or running, any new document or email will have delay. And delay will happen during the creation of the doc or email.
In activity monitor, nothing is cpu hog. Word or Entourage or Database Daemon will not be more then 20% (one at time).
Any help appreciated.

- Yes, have tried that system, using entourage for current emails, and Apple mail for archived emails (older then 6 months). Still has delays when typing a new email or in word (the database daemon is slowing things down).
Upgrading to Office 2008 will solve a lot of your problems. Office 2004 was designed for the PowerPC Apple chips and run poorly on the newer Intel Macs. Mailboxes start bogging down when they get to be around 500Mb in size.
One workaround would be to create a new mail account and use this to check current mail. Set this new mail account as your default account. All of the prior mail will still be available and searchable in the old account, but your new account will be more responsive.
Are you familiar with creating a new account in Office 2004?

- If the only apps that run slow are also ones that are part of Office 2004 (Word, Excel, etc.) then there isn't anything wrong per se. Office 2004 runs very slow on Intel-based Macs.
