Hello Brunner, The record heads might be malfunctioning or the circuitry that connects to the record heads might be malfunctioning. What you need to do is with an oscilloscope see if there is audio at the record heads. you will also need a schematic to let you know wher the test points are and if the signals are in the right places. If you do not have a background in electronics you will have to take the unit to a shop for repairs.

Finding a Microcontroller for a Technics Tape Deck

I am sure there is one available or suitable sub . I wonder if technics would provide more information if you contacted them or a local electronics store.
A microcontroller may or may not be programmed for a specific purpose so, that also may be an issue if not purchesd froma source used for that device.

There is also a forum called tapeheads:

I found some links here and even a few sold for parts around 15 bucks:

How to hook up to tv

For what purpose? To Record the unidentified TV audio or to Play tapes through the TV's speakers? Any tape deck records FROM a standard Line Level output of another device and plays out TO a standard Line Level input of another device. If your TV has those, go for it.

Looking at manuals may help, too.

Audio tape cassettes, old pre-recorded and home recorded play too slowly and drag. All brands. Tape deck plays new tapes fine.

A good cleaning to the rollers and tape head with a qtip and a small amount of rubbing alcohol should do the trick

Drop-out glitch with Fuji mini-DV tapes

Unfortunately, the outlook is grim. If you duped the tape and the dropouts still appear, the anomalies are regrettably on the master itself, or the DSR11 is malfunctioning.
To be sure, try the following: View the master tape on a different deck, if possible. If glitches vanish, problem solved. Connect the AV/RCA out to the input on whatever digital deck you're using, and capture as usual with FCP. (If you need assistance with this step, I'll be happy to walk you through or send you in the right direction) Optimally, for a Hi8 tape, you would capture using DV 60i settings.
If glitches still appear, try capturing audio and video in two separate occurrences, I.E. One capture for video only, and a second capture for audio only. Sync in final cut.
If that doesn't work, your other option is to send the tape out to a post production house/lab, and see if they can do it -  but if you've tried everything else and resorted to this option, the chances are slim that much can be done - Hi8 tapes are notoriously difficult to recover. Best of luck, and do let me know I can be of further assistance :)

Recording from audio tape to laptop

Hi Vincent.

Just use the play out connections on the back ot the deck, and connect them straight to the line in socket on the lappy. Use a RCA stereo to 3.5mm stereo jack connection, levels will be fine. Try audacity as a decent freeware recording program. Woks well, and you can use half decent plugins to tweak the audio. :)

Putting a new playback head into an audio cassette deck.

Hi PATRICK

What happened when you used the head demagnetiser tape? Did chew out the head? If you can give me the model of the deck I can make some enquiries to help you sort it out.

DSR-11 stopped outputting anything

I have almost the same problem!  Did you ever figure out what happened?  Here's what I had posted yesterday:
Tech Friends -
I recently got a non-sony tape stuck in my DSR-11 (bummer) and was forced to extricate it using the "my tape got stuck in the DSR - 11" article's method of removing the top cover and highest level of circuit board:
http://www.fixya.com/support/t178954-tape_stuck_inside

This worked for the tape removal, however, upon replacing the circuit board and cover, the deck no longer seems to be able to do anything with video or audio.  It still communicates with FCP via its firewire connection (ie FCP is able to control FF, rewind, play functions, etc), but it seems unable to read or write video.  Also, we use it as an A - D converter box between a Beta SP deck and thecomputer (actually, this is the deck's main function here).  Even when I switch it to the correct setting (video) and check to make sure that everything is plugged in correctly (trust me, I checked, it is), I get the "there is no video here" error message.
Also, after trouble shooting the drive for a little while, I pressed the "reset" button the the rear.  I'm not sure if that matters one way or the other.  I don't think it does (that just resets the time code, right?)
The question is, would this be a case of "fried firewire jack" such as it seems so many of us DSR - 11 owners have?  Could I have done any frying myself by not having myself properly grounded when opening the shell?  Is there anyone who knows the answer?  Help!  I can't digitize my video!
Comment by eltriunfo, posted on Sep 05, 2008 The Plot Thickens...
Okay, I've checked all of the FCP settings and played with the deck more and it's only confused me more.  I can now get it to not only be controlled by the computer, but actually print audio and video to mini dv tape.  Also, I can record from my Beta SP deck to miniDV tape in the deck (connected through the "video" input on the rear of the unit).  In other words, the deck seems to function perfectly doing everything except for converting analogue to digital passively.  The way we always did it before was by keeping the input switch on the face of the unit on "video" and log and capturing in FCP with it as a noncontrolable ntsc device.  This makes me understand it less.  It means to me that it is not a broken switch, it's not a broken firewire port, everything works perfectly EXCEPT for using the unit as an A-D converter.  What the dill-yo?  If anyone in the world could offer any insight as to what could be causing this I would greatly appreciate it!

Yamaha Natural Sound Amp and Tape Player

All of this applies to nearly any analog consumer audio gear...

If you have any Tape Deck and an Equalizer and only the one Tape Monitor loop you should place the EQ into that Tape Monitor loop, then place the Tape Deck onto one of the probable two Tape Monitors on the EQ as it sounds like you had here...

"When I had it set up with the graphic equaliser, pressing tape monitor on the amp and on the equaliser gave me play backfrom the tape player."
That setup will allow you to apply EQ to any analog source and the tape deck in record or playback mode.

However, if you want to remove the EQ and use the Tape Deck directly on the Tape Monitor just attach the deck's Playback cables to Tape Mon In (Play) and the deck's Record cables to the Tape Mon Out (Rec). Flip the Tape Mon control to hear the tape deck or monitor it while recording.

----

NEVER plug anything but a turntable into the Phono. It has a preamp that expects a ver ysmall signal from the cartridge AND it also has a severe RIAA Equalization curve which would result in grossly exaggerated frequency extremes if you managedto get a non-LP source into it. Likewise, turntables without internal electronics mut always use the Phono section of a receiver, preamp or integrated amp to get the boost and EQ they need.
