DVD Player malfuntion

Photo and music CDs play OK but not regualr DVDs for Region 2/Universal. Have gone through setting up procedure a number of times. Suspect that a non-compatible DVD may have been used previously. Would this have corrupted the built-in software? If so how can I fix it? Thanks

-   I have no problems playing CDs, but I am not longer able to watch a DVD.
This a new problem. I wasable to watch DVDs, but last evening I continued to receive a NoDisc message. Now I do not even get this message. I tried to troubleshoot with my CDs and experience no problem. I have tried several DVDs with the same result.
Can you assist? Thank you
