HP LaserJet 3030 All-In-One Printer Logo

I have a problem with our HP3030 in that when I try to photocopy using the document feeder, the pages all come out with a double black line running down the centre of each page. The same problem comes with a printed Fax Sent Sheet. But when I photocopy one sheet only at a time on the Flatbed, the copy is clean and does not have this double black line. Anybody have any idea how to cure this? I suspect it's something to do with the lighted heated thing on the scanner, which has to copy from the Document Feeder, only in the narrow gap under the Feeder where the sheet feeds through, whereas on the Flatbed, the scanner scrolls along the entire page on the flatbed. I think it's screwdriver and investigation time. I used to watch the guy who used to come and service my ancient photocopier. He used to take the heated scanner thing up and just brush off the extra collection of the dried ink which has come as excessive ink from the ink cartridge. I suspect it's probably something like that. Anyone any ideas please? Thank you

Brilliant. I had cleaned the strip of glass with a duster but the line remained on the document fed copies, scanned copies and the Sent Fax sheets.
On closer examination to see if there was a problem underneath the glass I found a tiny blob of dried on sticky/liquid or something on the top of the glass strip, which I
hadn't noticed had not cleaned off with duster. Now removed!!
Completely clean document fed copies and scans. Sorted. Thank you JoeFine48.
By the way, the ToolBox (and presumably CD) Help is useless. It suggests changing the Print Cartridge and on the examples of problems didn't show this one at all, but there is a page in the HP Website Help Section in Business Help where different vertical lines, so many inches from the right hand margin of the page - appear to be shown as demonstrating different problems, So anyone with one or more vertical lines to the right of centre on all printed copies, should look on the HP Help site for some cluies to fix.
    Thanks everyone.

I just started having the same problem last week. So what has to be removed and what exactly has to be cleaned?

    Thanks.

You're right. There is probably debris on the glass where the paper passes through. It's a common problem. You'll have to raise up the scanner so that you can see the glass. Then clean it off and you're back on business.

I have a Epson cx11 and get a black vertical line down the middle of scans and copies

Check your flat bed and Document feeder scanning glass need to be clean, if any dot or dust in scanning glass of document feeder it will appear a line, check this points first
1- Check printouts from computer or FAX if it is clean problem in scanning section
2- Check using Copying a blank paper using only Flatbed if it prints without any line its problem from document feeder Scanning glass
So solution is clean the Document feeder scanning glass using wet cloth, note careful about wet cloth switch off the machine and clean it

Line thru the documents when using top feeder

you didn't state model #, but raise your feeder up and look for the "skinny" piece of glass on left side of your large glass and make sure you clean it well.

When I am photocopying and scanning documents I am noticing vertical lines on the print in the middle of the page which is ruining the copy, any ideas? Alos message intermittently coming up waste toner...

Most probably you are using the automating document feeder for the photocopy or scanning. If you can lift up the document feeder , there should be the mirror where you can put the original document for manual photocopy or scan. Clean the edges of the mirror with a printer cleaning liquid. There may be some foreign particle stuck there or it is just dirty from long use. Hope this helps.

The photocopying using the feeder leaves a black line

There is a separate scanner glass from the flatbed scanner glass.
Without a make/model I cannot tell you exactly how to access it, but once you have uncovered the document feed scanner glass area, the glass will need to be cleaned well, and then you will be able to scan from the feeder without the black line appearing.

There is a black line going down the middle of the page when I photocopy something

Because you haven't mentioned what kind of printer you have, I'll have to guess at giving an answer. I have to assume that you are using the automatic document feeder(ADF). Lift the scanner lid. To the left of the big glass rectangle there should be a thin glass strip. That is your problem. Clean it good. Glass cleaner works fine.

Black lines down on printed page

This is caused by dirt/debrise on the ADF (automatic document feeder) scanner glass. You need to open up the feeder where your originals are fed in and look for a strip of glass that runs from front to back. It is about an inch or so wide. You need to clean this glass to get rid of the lines. Some models have this glass just to the left of the large main glass, but in your case I beleive it is in the feeder itself.
Good Luck.

Brother MFC 9880 - When I copy a document using the flatbed feature I get several black lines or strikes at the bottom of the photocopied page. If I use the automatic feeder the photocopied page is...

Your glass is dirty. The reason you don't get it from the ADF is because it uses a smaller different glass ahead of the glass that you use when you put it on the scanner. Clean the glass using a lint free cloth and some glass cleaner or, better yet, lens cleaner.
