Re: programming my mitsubishi remote

If the remote is specific for your model of Mits (or a range of Mits models) it should be able to do every function including time/date/timer record. If by chance this is a universal remote box (it doesn't look so by the part number you supplied), many such boxes- especially lower cost ones, may not be able to do those advanced functions. Your remote box should have a menu button which will allow you to access all the setup areas. One site shows your remote and there is a menu button on it. It is possible the remote box has a problem (well used boxes can have buttons which fail to work, or are difficult to activate. Did you purchase these new, or used? If used, then perhaps a dead or difficult button is a fair possibility. If this is the problem, sometimes this can be fixed or improved by taking the box apart and cleaning the button pad and matching contact surfaces on the circuit board.

Can the date chip be updated in a mitsubishi VCR?

You can work around the problem. Check old calendars for a year where the days and dates correspond to the 2010 calendar. Program that year in your VCR and it will allow you to program recording times. The year 2004 will work.

No manual or remote

Following the instructions I have been able to program a Philips SRU4105WM/17 universal remote using the first Mitsubishi code from the code list. However, I had to have the universal remote "learn" the vcr/tv button function (I assigned it to the Exit button). Good thing I still have the original Mitsubishi remote:-) I haven't tried having the universal remote learn all the functions, such as Cancel, Counter Reset, Audio Function, Video Function etc. I could see if I'm able to program those, if you'd like. LMK if you have any other questions.

VCR not timer recording, VCR will not turn on with timer

If no menu, unplug, and let it set a few minutes. Replug and the on-screen menu should appear. Reset the set-up (date, etc). I had the same experience as one of the other posters with JVC customer service telling me the menu button on the remote was malfunctioning, and I should purchase a new remote from them.
After you input your programming, be sure to hit the Timer button on your remote. If you want to change tapes or playback, you will need to hit the Timer button again (take it off Timer) for access to your VCR. Be sure to reset it to Timer afterwards, or you will not be able to record.

Setting date and time on a Mitsubishi VCR

My Solution for Mitsubishi HS-U500 VCR setting the date for 2008 and beyond:
I had same problem with this old unit as everyone else has.  Since the year really doesn't matter (except maybe when you're setting to tape near a new year), here's how to get the day and dates correct:
On the remote, push Menu button, then select "First time setup", then select "Set the Clock", then select the month.  Now, start adjusting the YEAR and watch how the "days" change with the years.  Adjust the years so that the "Day" (Monday, Tuesday, etc.) matches the date (1,2, 22, 23, 28, etc.) in the month.  Then cycle thru the rest of the items and get out by hitting menu button again.
That's it!  That's my quicky solution.  Caveat: This may not be permanent with leap years and the like, so you may need to check it from time to time to make sure the days match up with the dates.  But you can do this when you go to set up for timed taping.  Hope that "FIXes" it for "Ya"!
