Question about Sony KDF-E50A10 50 in. LCD HDTV

Verticle lines following the color spectrum across the screen.

I have the kdf-e50a10 and I have thin vertical lines repeating the color spectrum all the way across the entire 50" screen. You can just barely make out an image through the lines. I'm thinking that replacing the light engine will resolve the issue. Someone also suggested the Q-Box. Does anyone else have any thoughts?

Vertical lines across entire screen. No warning just suddenly appeared when set was tuned on one afternoon after being fine earlier in day. Set is 14mths old.

    How was this resolved ?

I have same problem, greenish color vertical lines with reddish purple horizontal lines, the set is 18 months old. I tried reseting it, plugging it into another outlet, even tried Sony's tech support. Sony offered no real help other than pay someone to come out and fix it. Not sure if i'll buy a Sony again. I saw simular problem on another Sony. I hope it's not the part# a1167541a b block assy. Price $900.00 just for the part.

Same rainbow colors running vertically. Instead of a pot of money at the end of the rainbow, I get a black, dark, and empty pot only waiting for me to put money into it. We all fell into's Sony's business strategy of intentially puting timers and or unreliable parts in consumer products.

Hi, I have the same problem. I've had the tv for less than a year, and just today when I turned it on, the colorful lines appeared across the entire screen. Last night it was working fine, and now all I hear is the fan running inside. Attached is a picture of what it looks like.

When I turn it on, the black screen is on for a while, and then turns to this. Nothing seems to work, menu, volume, channel, etc.

I also have the vertical lines following the color spectrum across the screen. I get this after about 45 flashes of the on/off light. Sometimes I won't get the lines but just a blank screen but can still hear the tv channel through the speakers.

I have the same problem of color vertical line after turning on.
3 year old Sony KDF-E50A10, manufactured Oct 2005.
Needless to say I paid lots of money for the Sony reliability.
I haven't called the Sony authorized repair shop yet but based on what I read here, it will likely cost me a lot.
Does anyone have any idea if this is a well known defect and Sony will cover any part of the repair bill ?

I have the same problem with vertical lines and no response to remote control.
    Bought Nov, 2005.
It is going to hurt when I get the estimate from the repair shop.
Seems like a common enough problem to this KDF line.
Does anyone know if Sony will cover part of the repair bill ?

Just got the bad news. Vertical lines appeard last week, repairman came
out and I knew it was going to cost me big bucks. Totally
disgusted...$2000 for a tv that lasts three years. I am not investing
$750 (estimate) to get it fixed. I can buy a new one for not much more
than that. I'm finished with SONY products. Happy Holidays!

I have been a loyalist of Sony products for twenty years. I have had this TV for 18 months, and this problem first occurred after about six months, I called a service technician who came out and said it needed a replacement part. And while the part was being secured while the TV was under warranty, the TV just started working suddenly one day. So the technician could not replace it under the warrantee.

Now after about seven months of trouble free use, the color spectrum vertical lines have reappeared without any warning, and have been constant, rendering the TV entirely useless.

I've reached my tolerance on SONY defective material. The Two VIAO's I've bought, have been totally unreliable, the SONY VCR/DVD combos (3) all have issues that make them intermitant and unreliable, and the 400 DVD player jute box is a dog as well.

Whats happened to SONY???? I've had enough of poorly performing products. Spend 10,000 in the last five years, without any product lasting beyond 24 months of service!

TV started having rotating vertical lines on the screen. Lines go up and down across the entire screen. Signal does not appear to be impaired playing in the background of the lines.

I have the same problem with the tv, vertical colored lines and all functions do not work. Has anyone found a solution to this? Replacing the b block at our expense is out of the question. Has Sony accepted this defect and extended the warranty on these?

B Block assy from Sony direct is about $890. It has a core value of $525 for the old part, so once you get credit for the old core, the new B Block Assy really costs you $365. Still too much, but not as bad...

Had Sony KDF-E50A10 that had the same line problems after 16 months. Was fine at lunch time and when got home from work and turned it on, they were the lines. Want over $800 to fix it. Told me it was the B-Board assembly. Sony was no help. They have exteneded the warrenty on another part that works along with the B-Board but not just the B-Board itself, so probably not any more Sonys. I'm going with LCD now.

Screen suddenly only shows vertical colored lines.

this is a problem with your LCD chips you need to replace the optical block to fix this problem and the vertical lines will get worst if you don't replace this part

Different color vertical lines on screen Sony KDF-E55A20

Go to the last page of troubleshooting in the manual and perform the system reset procedure. Basically hold the Wega "arrow up" as you manually switch the TV off. It will automatically switch back on and reset. I had only vertical colored lines on the screen, with audio but no response to any remote control functions. The rest worked perfectly.

Vertical color lines

I had the same thing happen to me this morning. I turned on the TV and it had colored vertical lines through the whole screen. I called Sony and they had me unplug the TV for about 15 minutes. This solved the problem. They said the boards just needed to be reset. It fixed the problem and I am happy with my Sony once again.

unfortunately the B Box assembly needs to be changed in these and price of the part alone is more than half the cost of a new tv

Verticle hold transistor?

The vertical hold keeps a normal picture from rolling either up or down. You don't have a normal picture (raster) here.

The problem you are having is a vertical deflection problem. The screen is being compressed to a thin white line. It's probably a defective vertical output module or transistor. This part is not too expensive. Less likely would be a vertical deflection coil, which would be more expensive because its usually glued to the picture tube and harder to replace.

Good Luck!
