Motherboards are part number specific. Please make sure that the part number you order matches the part number of the Motherboard you are replacing
I think I would use the exact one called for.

Does anyone know where to get the schematic for the dv6550us motherboard?

The closest I come to an HP Pavilion dv6550us, on HP Support, or on the internet is;

Pavilion dv6550tx
Next inline is Pavilion dv6560us,
then Pavilion dv6450us

Not available to the public.

Both use the Fairchild Semiconductor Industries - FDS6679 - Power MOSFET, and Alpha & Omega Semiconductor LTD - AO4407 - Power MOSFET, in the DC - DC circuit; as far as I know.

Both are Obsolete, but there are cross match examples out there.
(FDS6679AZ for FDS6679, for one)

Indicates HP Pavilion dv9000 series, and AMD; but also matches up to the Pavilion dv6500 series,

Asking for a Schematic, do I assume you are attempting
Board Level Component replacement?

What SMD/SMT IC component are you trying to replace?
(Surface Mount Device/Surface Mount Technology. Integrated Circuit)

Motherboard chipset info, and processor socket info, for processor upgrade.
Same thing for Ram Memory upgrade.
It does use DDR2 Sdram (SO-DIMM), and at 667MegaHertz, to my knowledge.

What usually goes bad on the HP Pavilion dv2000 series, Pavilion dv6000 series, and Pavilion dv9000 series of Notebook PC's?

The cooling for the graphics chipset is inadequate, therefore the graphics chipset overheats, and partially melts the Solder Joints in the BGA surface mount.

Resulting in no graphics.

Power MOSFET's in DC - DC circuit go bad.

Difference between DV6000 Intel mothearbord and DV 6000 AMD motherboard

The DV6000 is a moniker for an entire series of laprop computers, each with a unique model number that has some variation the DV6XXX. Some will have Intel Core Duo, some Intel Celeron, some AMD Turion 64, and some AMD Mobile Sempron processors. Features, speed, and cost will vary appropriately with the Obviously the AMD and Intel boards are different and you cannot swap processors between boards. Here is a link to the HP Maintenance Manual for the DV6000 series laptops. It lists all the Mainboards used with the series and what processors go on them. Motherboard is dead, need to replace.

There again I would stick with the motherboard that is called for, you'll find it fits and you will not have a difficulty finding drivers that play nicely together. I have see a lot of remanufactured on eBay and parts places, you might save money that way.

HP Pavilion Entertainment PC dv9000

Making a fairly confident presumption that your laptop is an AMD-based unit, model is....DV9205, DV9310, or DV9410

HP issued a service alert 07122001 covering such AMD-based laptops with your wifi failure, as well as additional failures within your product line. This is a warranty enhancement that will cover the replacement part and labor for you the customer.

HP has very recently started phasing out their older models like the 9005/9010, as the issue alert is basically good from 2yrs of date of purchase.

2 solutions for you....

1) Call HP and give them the serial/model info and inquire about that service alert # mentioned above, see if your laptop is still covered.

2) Replace the motherboard yourself and at your cost

(ok maybe another option)

3) Get a USB wifi card :/
