Hi, I've inhereted this old model from my previous job. I had to delete all the software since it was set up as a work station through the companies server. (Took ages before it had worked through all the installed protocols) I have discs from Dell and HP to install the operating system but I don't seem to get it to read the discs...? It just comes up with the message 'no operating system'
Some proprietary recovery/installer CDs meant for a particular brand of laptop will not work on another. What you need perhaps is a Windows installer and use the serial number/key at the bottom sticker oy your laptop. You of course have to set in the CMOS/BIOS that the laptop boot from the CD first or F12 to select boot device. Further, the necessary driver files for a Toshiba laptop devices/components would not be available from a Dell or HP discs.
If the CD drive will not read/boot the Windows installer CD, then the optical drive might have a problem. Your only alternative is to use/boot a USB attached device such as an external HD, CD or flash drive with the necessary boot files and installers. The first 2 would require the use of an external connector (IDE to USB adapter) while the last would have to be prepped using a 2nd PC.
Hope this be of some help/idea. Pls post back what method you intend to use or should you need additional information.
