Question about E-Machines eMachines Desktop PC

Emachines T2698? This is my sisters computer and she ahs had it for sometime not really sure how long but just this past weekend the computer was running real slow and her father in-law went ahead and did a system restore. She told me that when they got done with the restore everything worked better. She also has a Emachines laptop that is acting up and so she went to try her desktop computer. She pushed the power button and it came on but it stops at a big E on the screen and you can't do anyting from there. Tried to enter safe mode, nothing but when another thing is that when you push the power button while it is on the computer shuts off fast. I mean faster then any computer I have ever touched. I am not sure where to go from here. I know that the system restore would help ut I am not sure why it is not booting up to anything. Everything would help I am sure and this is something new to me so I am really waiting to learn what to do in a situation like this. Thank you

Alrighht I understand what you are saying about the recover disc and all but I am not sure how to get to the CMOS/BIOS to check the set-up and everything.

Alright so I understand the whole recover disc thing, but I don't understand the CMOS/BIOS thing. I am not sure how to get to it and where to find the settings.

Hey I just got when I got home from college and I tried the whole CMOS/BIOS thing and I got it to the CMOS/BIOS screen and set the fail-safe were loaded and then saved. The computer restarted itself and it made it further then the big E this time. It made it to the screen that tell you that your computer was shut down wrong and that it will talke sometime to boot. The first time I let it countdown and see what happened. Nothing. Then I tried safe mode and. Nothing. So I let it sit a little and then put the recover disk in and it read it and I ran threw the recover disks and restarted the computer and Nothing happened again. So by now I know that the copmuters hard drive has been wiped and the stock software has been installled. I never ran into a problem like this before and I have got to say that your advise has help for the most part and I have already learned so much. I hope we can get this. Thanks for everything. I hope to hear from you.

e-machine w3103 suddenly stops in the boot process and gets to the big E but it is distorted and that is where it sits. It does this every time and never varies! Is this an e-machine issue? What could cause this instability and failure to boot?

Hi, On the e-Machine desktop, go to the CMOS/BIOS set-up and set everything to default or fail-safe settings. Save and Exit. Verify also that the desktop auto detected the hard disk. If the unit will still not boot to the OS, you may have to reinstall/recover. Slip in the installer/recovery CD and opt for "Repair" Hope that this be of some help/idea. Post back how things stand or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards.

    Hi again,

On an eMachine desktop PC, after powering it up and before Windows, press the "Del" key. This will open the CMOS/BIOS configuration.

If I understand your last post right, might as well do a clean/fresh/new install of the operating system to save you the trouble of repairing, reinstalling, re-configuring at each and every step.

First you got to get hold of a Microsoft Windows installer CD. You can borrow it and no need to buy. You will be using your own product key/serial number so whoever lends it to you should be safe.

Should this be the route you would want to pursue, pls post back what Windows version was previously installed and if you have access to such an installer CD.

My Sister has a dell monitor and a emachines tower, She cant get the monitor to turn on. is it compatible? Or is there something else she should try cause she has it hooked up right.

They are compatible, make sure your connectors are right... If the emachine is using a graphics card, make sure it is hooked up to the greaphics card not the motherboard but if you do have it hooked up to the graphics card, then try the motherboard's video output.

My emachines T2698 won't start up. When I turn it

Using the restore discs might not have been so benign; nevertheless, perhaps your machine was off-put by a new piece of hardware (e.g. USB drive, external HD, webcam, etc.) you put on.
Unplug all but the basics; mouse, keyboard, speakers, monitor...and just reboot, selecting Boot Normally and hitting Enter if asked to choose.
For that matter make sure the monitor's plugged in well, clean out the machine with compressed air and a canister vacuum, check that the videocards etc. are well seated...and retry.

Failing that, give some proper detail as to what works, what's unpromising, and what's unexpected.

PC 2700 DIMM emachines memory upgrade probems

1. There is a problem with your new RAM even though it supports up to 4 GB it doesn't mean that 1 GB of RAM is compatible. It's possible that the 1 GB DDR2 that you have installed is not supported by the system bus of the motherboard and won't make it through startup because of compatibility issues.
2. Try getting RAM from this dealer because its compatible with your motherboard and supports the system bus

Hi i want to download pics on my sister's computer and i don't have the disc. please help, susan

As a solution I highly recommend that you consider using a card reader to download your photos to your sister's computer. They're very inexpensive, much faster downloading photos from the camera, do not use the camera's batteries during download, and are much less prone to file corruption of the photos during the download.

You place the camera's card in the reader, and your computer sees it as a hard drive. You simply copy/paste or drag/drop your photos onto your hard drive. For all of these reasons, most professional photographers utilize card readers exclusively. Really, you'll save yourself a lot of heartache. Here are some examples from Amazon. Also, don't be fooled by the cost. some of the cheap ones work just fine. Go by the reviews. Also make sure you get a reader that is stated capable of reading your card (particularly if you have an SDHC card)::

For international readers, here's another source for card readers (free international shipping too :-)

Hello sir,

I didn't necessarily need to enable QoS when I was on 3 meg, but now that I've downgraded back to 1.5 once again due to financial strain (and since I'm not at home that much anymore), it's critical that I find a way to properly enable QoS. Why? My sister is here on the weekends, and so am I. An example of the connection stress I have to go through is when she's streaming a video from Stage6 or Veoh, I have to undergo lag whether I'm viewing a web page or watching a Youtube video. Sometimes, the lag is ridiculous...and for those who think my DSL is at fault, check out the stats:

ADSL Line State: Up
ADSL Startup Attempts: 1
ADSL Modulation: ADSL2+
ADSL Data Path: Interleave
Datapump Version: DSP, HAL
Downstream Upstream
---------- ----------
SNR Margin: 19.00 26.00 dB
Line Attenuation: 58.50 39.00 dB
Output Power: 20.97 11.83 dB
Errored Seconds: 0 0
Loss of Signal: 0 0
Loss of Frame: 0 0
CRC Errors: 0 0
Data Rate: 1493 249

(On a fast path profile too, mind you; it is not interleaved according to the 11 ms 2nd hop on a tracert)

Anyway, back on QoS, if I could just find a way to limit the bandwidth to my sisters computer or to make my connection the higher priority of the two, I would be fine with just that, because sometimes, I can't even break past 30 kb/sec with her hogging the connection. The question is, how do I go about doing it? emotionless.gif

Anyway...I'm really at a loss here, and I'm assuming this is the screen where I can add QoS profiles. Upon clicking add (or edit), I am transferred to this screen..

This is how I've attempted to setup a QoS profile to prioritize my connection (the inside, network IP address typed above). I'm not sure if it will work or not and I will have no idea until my sister comes over here this weekend. The point is, I just want to be ready and not have to reconfigure and reboot my modem constantly to set up QoS properly.

If anyone, and I mean ANYONE could offer me some insight on properly configuring my router to properly prioritize my connection over hers (even if it's just port 80; I don't care), I would much appreciate it.

I apologize for the rather...lengthy post.

Good Luck
