Scanning tray not working

The printer has a feeding top tray. If you place a document to be fed and copied it does not feed at all. It starts to scan from the glass bed. Also, the screen sometimes say that the document tray is open, but I cannot see anything opened. HELP! This is used in my classroom and it is a life saver and it is pricey to replace. Thanks!

Check that the hinges that are on the ADF (the bit that you can lift to reveal copy glass) are not broken, the left side hinge breaks, causing the ADF switch (also on left) to not close, causing problems like yours.

When we feed documents through the document feeder the copies come out blurred. We do not have that problem when we place the documents directly on the glass plate.

When paper is fed through the document feeder it scans the whole page on a little strip of glass about an inch wide and about 12 inches long. That strip has dirt on it that needs cleaned off. Lay the bad copy on the glass (face up) and you can line it up with that little glass and see where the lines match up. Clean that little glass with alcohol or glass cleaner and it will be fixed :)

I get a black line when scanning, ( not when printing)how do i fix it

This is commonly caused by a mark on the scanner plate. If you place your document to scan on the scanner plate (Lift the lid and place it on the glass plate) and scan or copy the document does it come out clean? If you feed the document through the Auto Document Feeder doe the line appear?

If when place on the plate it is clean but fed through the ADF there is a line, then when you lift the lid on the scanner you will see a narrow glass plate at the end (Normally the left end) of the scanner plate. Give this glass a clean and your mark will go away.

If the scan or copy is lined when using the Flatbed scanner and the ADF then the problem will be in the scanner lamp which will be probably uneconomical to fix.

I want to make copies of a paper document. Can this printer do it? How do do I it? I know how to print from the web but not from a paper document. Thank you. Love, Anne

If your printer has a scanner bed or a scanner input feed, then you should be able to copy by placing what you want to copy there and pressing the copy button or following the instructions on the screen (if it has one).

If you don't have a scanner tray or feed, then you probably won't really be able to copy documents well.

If you have the bed or tray and still can't figure it out, please post your model number so we can give you specific instructions.

Please leave feedback if this was helpful. Thanks.

Original document fed into top feed tray of mfc 7440N model come out with few thin black lines on the mid left of the scanned file. Scanning file from glass has no issue.

You need to clean the narrow glass strip on the left side of the machine when you open the cover. There is likely lint or something on this glass. This is where the auto document feeder pages are "imaged".

I need to change from feeding multiple originals from the top external feed to one sheet copying on the scan bed

If I understand you, just put the original on the glass instead of using the Auto Document Feeder.

Have a Samsung SCX-5315F All-In-One that has a line running down the page when you copy using the document input tray. Clean copy when using the flatbed. I have cleaned all the glass thoroughly.

It sounds like it is dirty where it feeds through and not on the flat bed glass. Try and gently lift up the top section where the paper feeds through. If it resists you may need to locate clips or screws but generally the thin strip of glass under the top feeder is easily accessible. Good Luck

When printing or faxing from the top tray of my HP OfficeJet 6310 all in one I get a line that runs down the entire page on the copy or fax to the recipient. I have tried cleaning the glass and rollers...

The key to solving this problem lies in what you observed. It only happens when you use the document feeder. As you noted, when you place it on the glass, there is no line.

When you use the feed, your machine does not pull the document onto the main glass to scan it with a moving bar. Instead, the bar parks itself under the roller section, and the document gets scanned as it rolls past the stationary bar. A spot or speck that blocks the light bar as the document rolls past manifests itself as a vertical line.

Lift up the left cover and the roller carriage and you will see a narrow pane of glass about 1-1/2" wide. This is what you clean. I cleaned mine twice, unsuccessfully, with a glass wipe. Then I decided to align the streak on my copy with the glass, and saw the faintest speck. You may have to look VERY VERY hard under a bright light, but it will be there. A third, more vigorous and direct scrub and the speck was gone--so was the streak.

If the vertical line appears in both modes (document-fed and manual) then there is something on the light bar, or the bar has a broken scan pixel. If the main glass were dirty, you would not see a line, but random spots, and then only when fed manually. Dirty feed rollers can make lines, but not usually the clean, precise lines that are created by a blocked scan bar.

Automatic paper feed

The narrow glass section at the left of the flat bed scanner glass is shaped concave to route the paper back up to the tray if you are using the document feeder. Right above this is a spring loaded paper guide that puts slight pressure on the paper as it is fed through. If the cover of the scanner is not closing completely it will miss guide the paper. I would check that there is nothing on the flatbed or in the hinge section that is keeping the cover lifted slightly. The hinges do extend for copying books, so it may have jammed in the up position causing your problem. Good luck!

I have a brother copier model dcp 7025 and am experiencing a vertical line on copies where the original is fed through the top feeder tray but the copies are fine when the original is placed directly onto...

Depends which way is vertical but I think the feed rollers on the upper tray are slipping perhaps dirty. (The paper momentarily stops feeding past the scan sensor)
