ARGH! No wonder Dell GIVES these printers away!! What a pain they are! I'm just putting a piece of black electrical tape over the flashing exclamation mark and carrying on printing..... no more Dell printers for me... free or not!

I hardly use the printer to print documents. To my understanding there should me plenty of both black and color ink in those cartridges... but the other day when I tried to print a document, it wouldn't print! I keep getting those error messages that I need to replace the ink cartridges for both and NO printed documents for ME until I do so!!!!

I am so upset because NOW, no other function but the stand alone fax machine will work until I put in at least one new ink cartridge on the printer!!!

Can anyone help?? Is there any other company but DELL at better prices where I can REFILL or EXCHANGE the cartridges for a BETTER PRICE???

I have had my 926 ink carts refilled twice now at Walgreens drugstore. They seem to work fine, but the message still says low, I click print anyway, and away it goes. I would like to get rid of the message tho' by the way, black was 10 bucks and color 15, but you get half off with a coupon, and you get another one on the box. [they put them in a box].

To get your printer to recognize the new cartridge; go to start - printer and faxes -right click on printer - preferences (printing preferences) -settings -load factory settings. Print test page Ctrl+P

Reset ink cartridge

Unfortunately you can't....

The ink level indicator cannot be manually re-set in the newer HP, Lexmark or Dell integrated ink cartridges, thus making it not usable. The OEMs all leverage 'fusible links' in the nozzle plate (internal to base of ink cartridge) which physically blows the resistors as the original ink is consumed...thus resetting the ink cartridge's ink level monitoring capability is simply not possible. The ink tracking feature is only available with a brand new ink cartridge.

However, losing this feature is not necessarily significant, because the ink level indicator usually has 20%-30% ink remaining when it shows "low on ink". Therefore, the warning has limited value, because customers who prematurely replace their cartridges when they see the "low ink" message are wasting a lot of residual ink.

Refer to any of the following videos which cover this 'low ink' subject in detail:

I replaced my black ink cartridge with a refilled from office max and it will not print in black. Why?

Most HP cartridges have what's called an ACCUM chip, which doesn't care about the actual ink level, it counts how many milliliters (or droplets) have gone through the head to determine when it's "empty" and therefore refilling doesn't do anything, the accum still says the cartridge is empty.

I need to reset my ink levels on my lexmark s305 after refilling cartridges

I managed to successfully refill the black cartridge for the S305; I did it when the printer warned of 'very low black ink' (although it didn't print very well - i.e. grey - until the following day). It kept displaying 'low ink' but printed fine for a few months.
I think if you can catch it before the printer decides it needs an 'official' refill or replacement then it works (although when exactly this is is a mystery, as it always displays 'low' for black ink).
Yesterday, the printer decided it wouldn't print until the cartridge was changed.
Refilled; waited for half a day;replaced several times; turned the printer on and off 5 times with no cartridge in (to see if it would wipe the printer's memory of the cartridge); and spent about 4 hours online trying to find a solution.
If it starts working tomorrow, I'll let you know. I don't want to mess about with software that may reset the ink levels. (If anyone finds some that works, please post!)
It looks like Lexmark have ensured they can pile in the cash with their original cartridges.
I've heard about generic cartridges that are chipped to avoid the above problem - I'll visit my local refill store soon.
There must be a way round this!
Cheers, Fronter

My refilled ink cartridge still displays empty and will not print

The ink cartridge is most likely chipped & you would not be able to reset the ink level. Purchase an original or a good compatible cartridge. Refiling newer cartridges is not a good idea.

Dell a940 error code 50c

From doing my research, I have found that the 50C Error message comes from the cartridge, usually if it has been refilled. If this cartridge is new, please return it to the place of purchase for a new one or a refund.

Here's what happens when you refill the Dell Series 2 ink cartridges. There is a sensor in them that cannot be reset.

Dell ink cartridges can only be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's website.

Dell ink cartridges have a sensor that reports the ink level as low once it reaches a certain level. The sensor can not be reset. If you refill an ink cartridge that previously reported low ink, it may print fine, but the sensor will always report low ink. Buying or replacing ink cartridges with new Dell cartridges will resolve the low ink message.

Dell discourages ink refills. Refilling ink may lead to print quality problems, and even eventual hardware problems.

if u have not refilled ur cartridge and u still get this error i suggest u buy a new cartridge.....

good luck

Let the ink settle in the cartridge for awhile. Make sure no ink is on the outside of the cartridge which adversely effects the signal to the printer.

Dell 926 injection refill kit didnt work

The ink your purchased is likely a cheap watered down version of what your printer is meant to take. You may notice that the ink smears when you rub the page directly after printing. Why you chose to use the blue and red ink to make black blows my mind. These refill kits are insanely cheap and buying the black could not have been much more. Not using black ink in the black cartridge would explain why your print is faded. Also, there is no way to reset the ink levels on this type of cartridge. As long as the printer still prints, just ignore the ink level indicator and print until the ink runs dry. I recommend Cartridge World for ink refills because they use high quality ink to manufacturer specified volumes while still saving you money.

Low warning annoying me

Dell's proprietary grip on its printers causes this message to appear with any non-Dell or refilled cartridge. The messages/ink filled levels will only be reset if you buy a new Dell ink cartridge or have a way to update their encoding strip.

The good news is that you can still use refilled cartridges just minimize the level warnings to the task bar and ignore them when they come up. Everything should still print fine.
