Look on the side of the laptop for the headset port. Plug your external speakers in there. Then you will have full control of volume and such through the OS system control.

I have a sony bravia KDL-32L4000 LCD TV and the sound has gone

For anything you plug in or just certain things? Before the sound stopped, did you change the sound output to something different? Do you have external speakers plugged in?

If the built-in speakers on the tv are not working, plug the television into a set of external speakers, select the output in the menu accordingly and test them. If they work, might be the speakers are blown or the menu configuration is wrong.

Always check the simplest things first, then work your way up to the harder/more expensive issues.

Rule out speakers, speaker board, connectors, external speakers, components attached to television, etc.

Speakers are mounted on the side of tv (mitsubishi CS 40503 1995 model) want to remove them and have them in a different location

"Speaker: Internal/External" controls which speaker (built-in or external) is available. Set to "Internal" for normal operation of the internal speaker system. When connected to external speakers or an external audio system, the speakers can be turned off by setting this function to "External."

From reading this I see that the speakers may be internal because the setup allows to switch between external or internal. A mounted speaker is either permanent, part of the case, or has something that the speaker case slips into. I had one like that. You simply lift them and set them else where. How far they can be moved will depend on the wire. The wire is either attached internal through the back or attached via connectors on the back. That can either be loose wire or RCA plugs. Normally the wire coming from the speakers is attached internal, making the removal of them impossible. The wire is usually 3 to 6 feet long. You can buy an external speaker wire that has RCA plugs (and or plain wire) that will attach to the existing speaker wire and TV.

Good luck and post back

Want to install exterior speakers

Go to menu, use ch. keys and click audio, use vol. keys to go to sub-menu, when sub-menu appears, use ch. key and click down to the tv speakers under heading "speakers", turn them "off". On left side in the back are the audio plugins, the top two under the s-video plugin, red on top, white next down are the two audio speakers rca jacks. Plug your external speakers, like the ones that you'd buy for a computer, in those two. The manual does not say if you plug speakers in these jacks the tv's builtin speakers will be cut off, but this tv I got was being used for a computer monitor and the tv's speakers were turned off from the menu, so I guess plugging in external speakers does not turn off the tv's speakers and would interfer with the external speakers. I suppose you could try it both ways and see, leave the tv's speakers "on" and plug in externals and see if they are turned off automatically.

Compaq C740TU speaker does not deactivates if external speakers are connetced

The internal speakers should automatically be disconnected by inserting a 3.5mm jack plug in the audio out socket. It may be that your headphones or external speakers are using a 2.5mm jack which is too small to operate the switches in the audio out socket. Purchase a 3.5mm jack plug [cheap] and plug this in if it disconnects the laptops internal speakers then you need to connect accesories with the correct size plug.

Speaker Problem

Nothing is wrong. Most computers automatically turn off the internal seakers after the external seakers are connected. Go to cntrol pannel and see what you can do under audio options or some such equivelent. Check back with more problems,
hope this helped/helps.
