Question about Canon S520 InkJet Photo Printer

1 Answer

S520 will not print in any color

I really like the s520 printer. It was working perfectly when I turned it off for the night. When I turned it on the next morning everything seemed to be okay until I tried to print a document and there was no ink deposited on the paper in any color. All the ink reservoirs are full. I cleaned the print head but still no ink on the paper. The printer operates normally the paper feeds like before but no ink. I bought a new print head thinking that it was bad but with the new print head I still get blank paper. When I put the print head on a tissue paper ink transfers to the tissue so I know that its getting ink. Could you give me a clue as to what the problem is? Like I said I don?t want to give up this printer as I like the way it operates and I have a large supply of ink tanks on hand. Now it appears I have an extra print head. Any help you could give would be appreciated. Thanks, ICE

If you have tried to print a nozzle check page and no ink has been deposited on the page, then it might be a bad logic board inside the printer or a faulty purge unit. Both parts are relatively expensive to purchase. You might be better off looking for a used Canon s520, i550, i850, pixma 3000, or similar model to use the remaining ink cartridges if you can locate one in good condition and not more than 40 USD. xcd187

My printer will no longer print in black s520

if it is a new black ink cartridge and the printer still wont print black start by:

A: Simply making sure the settings are ok. To do this, go to file>print. When the printer box shows up. click properties.

From there, you will be able to see color settings. (ex. black, grayscale, full color.) Try switching to black or "use black cartridge only.

B. If "a" does not work for you, the print head which hold the ink cartridge is clogged or no longer working. Through the cannon window on the printer, try running a print head cleaning or any maintenance program.

If there's still no black, the print head has seen better days and needs replacing. Most of the time it is more effective to get a new printer.

Black doesnt print all other colors work, ink is full

Try printing a few test pages to get the ink flowing. It's likely clogged/dried out. If it's a new cartridge and doesn't work, you should be able to return it. Alternatively, you could carefully try wiping the nozzle with a lint-free cloth and some rubbing alcohol.

The s520 printer will not print in black. ALl the

I have to ask this question of you, just to make sure this is not an issue. Are you using a factory new ink or toner cartridge?
Please consider the following:
If you are using a refilled or third party cartridges that may well be your problem. Most manufacturers build logic into their products to prevent the use of “Other Equipment Manufactured” cartridges as well as re-filled cartridges.
They do this to prevent problems from contaminated inks or toner causing problems with print quality or damaging the physical printhead or photo conductors.
If you are using factory new ink or toner cartridges, then please call the manufacturer’s Technical Support for assistance with the warranty on the cartridges

Waste Ink Absorber is almost full.

Press and hold the resume button until the power light flashes twice, a nozzle check print will print. If all the colors aren't there you will need a printhead, a repair shop would need to replace the ink absorbers and reset the counters.
