When I want to take a picture at night time (or anytime at all) the flash does not go off and to the left hand side of my sreen where it should say which flash mode I am in, a red down pointing arrow is flashing!! I got it for a gift a few months ago and do not have reciept!!! Please help!

Make sure you are using regular batteries and not rechargables, they can be problematic in any point and shoot camera. The best I've seen are the E2 and long lasting. You might pay a little more for those, but literally in the long run, you will be happier not have to recharge every couple of days. I did this and it was annoying, changed to regular batteries and I go for months at a time. Flashes can wear batteries down pretty fast.
The next reason why the pictures are orange, is possibly because of the White Balance setting. Make sure the camera White Balance select saus AWB (Auto). If it still comes out wrong, then put the camera dial in another White Balance selection and take another shot, if the same subject and lighting comes out warmer (more red) or cooler (more blue) then you know the settings are off and the camera should be service.

when I try to look at the pictures instead of the picture , the screen says PICTURE ERROR but only on a few of them. the thumbnail shows all of the pictures. I have a new battery in the camera.
