Re: how to put mi moden to work directly

You need to register the modem MAC id to your ISP and do the regular physical connection (Co-axial cable to the modem ). it will work

When i insert my moden in a laptop gives a response of usb device not recorganised.

If you have another machine to test on try plugging it into it and see if it works. If it does, then on the laptop power it off unplug the power cable, then take out the battery and let it sit for a few minutes, the put battery back in and connect power cable and restart machine. It should start working again.

Hi - The easiest way to find out is to reinstall the cable modem via your installation disc and see if that fixes the problem. If not, then it is something else.

Its askin me to enter gateway authentication, it provides my own username and the password that i had created but it doesnt go through

When troubleshooting complete lack of connectivity, it's best to proceed in a systematic way in an attempt to isolate the problem.
It's usually a good strategy to put all your equipment into a standard condition, by doing the following:
  • Shut down the PC(s).
  • Power off the NAT router, if you have one.
  • Power off the cable modem.
  • Eliminate the NAT router from the investigation by unplugging it from the cable modem, and connecting one of your PCs (configured for DHCP) directly to the cable modem.
  • Wait 30 seconds or so.
  • Power on the cable modem, and watch the LEDs.
  • Wait for the CM LEDs to reach their normal ready-for-service display . If they never reach the ready-for-service pattern, then you may stop at this point: you know you have a CATV network problem that only your ISP can fix. Contact your ISP.
  • When the CM LEDs have settled down into their ready-for-service pattern, power on the PC, and wait for the boot-up procedures to finish.
  • Now is your connection working? If yes, stop reading now: whatever was wrong has got better. If no, carry on reading.
You can join at this point even if you haven't followed the above standard-conditioning, provided you recognise that the diagnostic tests below refer to a PC connected directly to a cable modem, and that, if you have a NAT router inbetween, things will be different. If your connectivity problem only occurs with the NAT router in circuit.

Sounds like a problem with your cable connection. Check your coaxial cable, and the splitter from where the cable enters your home. The tech will use a signal meter to measure the quality of your cable, and then replace the wiring if necessary.

Do you have phone service with Charter as well? If so the modem you have been provided is made to run both the phone service and the internet. If you purchased your own modem from best buy the phone portion would not be present so that is why those connections are not on the new one.

To cut to the point the new modem will work just fine for you internet but bear in mind it will now require another splitter for the coax cable line and each time that you add a splitter you will loose a portion of the incoming signal and this may affect your services.

No connectivity; constant blinking LED lights "Receive" and "Send"

Or you didn't pay your subscription on time and the ISP disabled your cable modem to send user traffic over the cable network. When both Send and Receive lights are blinking that is a visual aid that the modem is working fine, but the ISP disabled its access to the network (unpaid bill, legal issues, etc.)
