Do you have phone service with Charter as well? If so the modem you have been provided is made to run both the phone service and the internet. If you purchased your own modem from best buy the phone portion would not be present so that is why those connections are not on the new one.
To cut to the point the new modem will work just fine for you internet but bear in mind it will now require another splitter for the coax cable line and each time that you add a splitter you will loose a portion of the incoming signal and this may affect your services.
If you are using an ethernet connection then you should not need an installation disk. If you are connecting through USB then you can download the drivers from motorola's website.
Connect one end of an ethernet cable into the ethernet port on the printer and the other one into a free port on the router. Then, using the install CD, tell it that you are attaching a printer on the network. The software should automatically detect the printer on the network and set itself up for it.
No and why doesn't your internet provider... provide a cable modem?? Did you just ask them to enable broadband internet service? So now you'll have to provide your own cable modem.
If what you say is correct you need a cable modem like a motorola surfboard from BestBuy.... then the cable modem plugs into your Linksys router and your PC's plug into the linksys router also.
