Computer cannot detect camera, tried different USB cables

My Canon camera has been working fine until now. All of a sudden when I want to transfer my images to the computer, I get an error message "camera not detected". I tried using different USB cables, still same error message. I also tried manually opening the Canon software, still same message. This camera is relatively new

I can't download pictures to my computer error message says cannot detect camera

It may be a USB port issue or a USB cable issue. Try an alternate cable or a different USB port. Try other USB devices on those same ports to make sure they work. Try using a USB card reader to transfer photos from the card directly instead of plugging in your camera directly.

Communication Error

It suggests that the USB socket on the camera is damaged.

It's not cost effective to repair it, so just remove the memory card from the camera and transfer files using an external card reader. It's usually a lot quicker this way as well.

Canon Powershot SD1000 Uploading Pics To Computer Problem

Since your two cameras have the same problem with the same computer, I would like to suggest you to connect those cameras to another computer. It looks like the problem is on the computer side.

Computer not recognizing my camera when connected

Most of the issues can be solved by either reinstalling the software or by disconnecting and reconnecting the device.
In this case we can close in on three solutions
1) The USB drive in the system is not functioning. Try connecting any other USB devices to the same USB port and check whether it works or not. If the other device works well then it could be a problem with the data cable or with the port in the camera (usually firewire)

2) The data cable used to transfer data might have become faulty.Try using another data cable if possible and still the same issue continues then try connecting another camera to the system and if the other camera gets detected then the problem must be with the camera.

3) Try connecting the same camera to another system and see whether the camera gets detected. If no, then the port in the camera is defective.

After this we can close in on which could be faulty. data cable / Computer / Camera.

Computer cannot detect camera at all!

Can you use a USB card reader? The canon software is great but it best used for using a method called tethering your camera (when you shoot directly from camera to hard drive)

Computer cannot detect camera at all!

This works for Windows98

1. Uninstall the Canon camera software.
2. Search for "Canon" in the registry. Delete ALL references associated with Canon camera in the registry. Just uninstalling the software will not work. Do not delete any other references to Canon products (printers, etc).
3. Re-install the Canon camera software.

I've had to do this several times. Works every time.
