Question about RCA P46922 TV

TV turned black while viewing and then started clicking

We've had this tv for about 7 years, so I am sure that it may have been a life issue; but I am hoping that there is a fix since we love it so much. I periodically was having issues with the screen turning black, but if you changed the channel back and forth it would be fine. This didn't happen too much until today, it happened twice and after the second time it went back to the channel, made a click noise and it turned off, I could tell the power was still working to it and all it did was make this annoying clicking sound. So, I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it is still doing it. The circuit breaker did not blow, any advice?

Check all the solder terminal at its main power regulator section circuit. Any loose solder terminal can poise this type of problem. Resolder all the suspected solder terminals by applying a little more solder. If you wish to get more details, check this site.

How long can this tv last for

I Have this very same TV and have had it for over 10 years, it still works great. The life of a TV can vary with every different use. Depending on how long the set is turned on and how many times you have turned it on and off. The off and on cycle is what greatly deminishes a TV's life span. If you start noticing the picture or color quality starting to fade it will be a hint that it may soon need replaced. ther eis the sudden failure of the power supply and then it will more than likely be done for. I would guess that you should get at least 12 years of use of this set, but as I said the life of these vary a great deal.

My sony wega keeps cutting off then coming back .

a couple of years old can be a long time:

has the TV been on 24\7

It's the amount of hours that matters..

electrolytic capacitors typically last 3000 to 5000 hours....

Special "long life" caps last close to 7000
but the caps in most consumer electronics, even broadcast equipment 3-5K hours.

I have a black retangular box in the middle of the picture screen

i had the same problem with a Sanyo tv, was ready to trash it and a friend told me how to fix it.i went to the tv menu (not cable or satellite menu) and from the settings list chose CLOSED CAPTION . i had inadvertantly made a change there which left me with a black text box and very little viewing area. i just had to make sure all of the options for CC were OFF. hope this helps

My tv blinks from regular picture to a black screen continuously.

your tv is on the blink.

remove the back panel of set
on the crt pcb board you will find a wite or black pot.
turn it up or down while set is on this is the G@ voltage ajustment.
you might get 3 monts to a year of extra life from your pictor tube by doing this.

TV Turns self off- 4 blinks on standby light

Yes, the blinks are error codes. I would not bother trying to figure out what they mean, I can tell you right now. Expensive repair. Average repair costs are 1/4 to 1/2 of the TV's current worth. Most likely a bad transistor. The average expected life span of a TV set is 3-5 years. After that, stuff starts wearing out fast. Time to move on.
