Check the belt inside of the machine that's a problem so it seem like it is loosing because of expanding so replace it with a little lower size or adjust it by loosing the motor and push it to side.and makesure not tighten toomuch because you may demage the motor and don't loose it toomuch.

SOURCE: MAYTAG WASHING MACHINE

The rubber smell is the belt from the motor to the tub. The grinding sound is/was the tension pulley that keeps the belt tight. The bearing on the pulley probably went out and now the belt is burning because of the friction of sliding around the pulley. The belt and the pulley need to be replaced. If you have the room, turn off and disconnect the hoses. Unplug the electrical cord from the wall outlet. Remove the drain hose and any water in the tub. Carefully tip the washer over backwards, DO DROP IT!!! Now you should be able to see the motor, tub, tension pulley, and belt. With a basic 3/8' drive socket set, probably metric, and a couple of screw drivers you should be able to remove the belt and the pulley. Take the belt, pulley, and model numbers to an applicance parts store and buy replacements.

I only suggest this because I hate paying labor. If you are not machanically inclined then you are going to have to pay the labor.

Good Luck

SOURCE: "howling" noise during spin cycle (still there after changing burned off belt)

Travioso, there was two service flashes out on this model concerning the seal and bearing which means they had an issue with this washer. The howling noise you are hearing is the bearing and will need the new designed triple seal and bearing kit. This should be covered under your warranty, I believe it is 5 years. The numbers for the service flashes are TDL-0048A-B. Call Maytag and inquire about these service flashes, these should be covered. Catriver.

SOURCE: washing machine spins slowly and smells of burning rubber

The belt could be worn and will be slipping on the pullys, as it spins up the rubber , rubs against the pullys and that is what creats the burning rubber smell, the belt needs replacing.

SOURCE: Burn Smell (electrical) from my GE WPSE4200A0WW

We have the same problem, and found out the the electric motor is running very hot. Replacing the motor seam to cure the problem, but the motor is not inexpensive. $200 to $350.

SOURCE: burning smell during spin cycle on frigidaire washing machine

Open lid as you would load clothes and hold the inner drum with all the holes in it. Give it a manual turn left, then right. If it spins in both ways the main bearing is gone. This is not a DIY because the new bearing has to be pressed on at a machine shop, or an appliance repair shop.

My magic chef washing machine makes a loud grinding/rubbing noise when agitating. Everything still washes and no smell of burning rubber, etc.

Stop the making if you can. Be sure something is wrong. When the machine is empty, ask a technician to check what is wrong. If it is an old machine, start saving for a new one and forget the tech.

Washer stopped during wash cycle, burning smell

http://www.appliancepartspros.com/Appliance-Parts/Dryer-Parts/index.aspx Take a look at what a new motor costs for your machine and go from there. Is may not be a motor is could be a belt or a bearing. I rebiult a washer for less then 50 dollars that one did not need a motor just bearings and a belt. I would take the washer apart so you can get an idea of what went wrong and then look at parts to repair it and decide what to do good luck
