I am using a Universal R5 remote. It worked fine with "1 CHK REMOTE" but I moved to "2 CHK REMOTE" and now the Universal will not interface except to bring up the "2CHK REMOTE" every time. I cannot change the R5 to "2" or bring up the menu to change back to "1" Is there a switch inside the case of the recorder? Could the remote bring up a menu if I plugged in a VCR? then change it back that way? Thank you out there..... A
If you still have the original remote for the DMR-E80H, you can switch it back to operate with "1 CHK REMOTE" codes by holding down the "Enter" button on the remote and then press the "1" key.
If you don't still have the original remote, you can try the same steps on your universal remote (assuming it also has an "enter" key that worked with your recorder) and it could work.

I have audio recorded on HDD and can playback DVD's as well with sound, too. But when I record new TV programs, I get video fine but no audio. Have tried pretty much everything settings-wise. Besides that, it has worked fine, but I am wondering the transition to digital broadcasting has something to do with it. When set to Video-1 (on my HDTV), the unit has picture but no sound, and that's what I get when I try to record. Cables all fine, and again, already recorded TV prgrms from past playback fine.
