I was sold two memory slots but I only see room for one.

If you're upgrading the memory remove the existing stick and install both of the new ones. You'll accomplish this by pressing down both of the tabs at the end of the memory slot. That should release the stick of memory and as it will "pop up" a bit.

I have a 500GB Seagate FreeAgent external hard drive with a lot of media on it that I really don't want to lose. It's USB connection is broken so that the port sort of just floats around inside. Could...

If you cannot get the USB port fixed you can take the drive out of the inclosure and install it as a second drive in another computer that has SATA capability to get the data off of it. You can always put it back in if you can get the enclosure repaired.

Upgrading to a 500GB hard drive.

Hello gadgeteer109....The AOD150 comes with a 160gb sata drive, so this should be a plug n play upgrade. Make sure the new drive is a notebook drive and not a desktop. You will need to install the operating system on the new drive... If you want, you can clone the original drive to the new drive before you swap them. You can download free cloning/backup software..Acronis has a free trial offer thats easy to use.You.will also need a 2.5 SATA drive enclosure, to hold the new drive while you clone the internal one to it before transfer to your computer, (these are cheap) and guess what... you can slap your old drive in it and have even MORE external storage! What a deal huh? The only tool you will need is a small phillips screwdriver.
TIP:
If you want to give the lilttle acer some rocket fuel while you have it opened up...swap out the 1GB of RAM for 2GB... A stick of Crucial 2GB 667 Mhz #CT25664AC667 DDR2 200-Pin SODIMM...will be another great plug n play upgrade for less than 25 buxs.
Hope this answers your questions and will fixya up...please take a minute to rate my response.

Seagate freedesktop agent 500gb, not detected on windows xp

I am facing the same same problem with my freeagent 750. It work some time, but most of the time it shows u in My Computer, but cannot enter. Couple of time if you run "chkdsk <Drive Letter>:/R" re-scans the entire hard disk and then it shows up. But that too stopped working now :-) Still hanging around for a resolution.
